Recommended Posts

:thumbdown:I mean REALLLY? So of course i cried and was telling husband that obviously this isn't going to work for me! LOL I know, a bit dramatic BUT come on!

What boggles my mind is how I have lost 8.5lbs since surgery 10 days ago, been on straight liquids and how I will be eating in 2 weeks full food and STILL lose weight? How??? I know it happens and maybe doubt is a part of this whole process but it sure makes me wonder.:confused::smile:

So frustruating. I need to stop weighing, LOL

Keep your chin up :tongue2: the band will work just give it time. You could have gained a pound maybe from your stomach being swollen after surgery.

The first few months after surgery is meant to let your stomach heal. If you lose weight during that time it is a bonus.

When I had my band removed and had some Lipo I gained 3 kg ( over 6 pounds) of Water weight that took a few weeks to get rid of. Once the Water weight was gone I had actually lost 3 kg from my surgery weight.

so far i've only LOST weight but i've been kinda "bad" lately even though i'm still on liquids and i'm desperately worried i'm going to weigh myself and see i've gained. i'd prolly have a breakdown like you did! it's ok though.... like everyone says it's normal for our weight to fluctuate at first and we have to remember that. i'm sure you're doing great and will continue to do great. the band will work for you!!!

Not to be snarky, but you need to do some research on what to expect post-op. If you are already complaining at less than 2 weeks out, you are setting yourself up for failure.

The time between surgery and your first fill is for healing. Most lose very little weight during this time. I, in fact, gained the same 4lbs for over a month.

Please dont set yourself up to fail. Read, research and have realistic expectations. Your body just went through a MAJOR surgery and your stomach has a new plastic tube around it. Let the swelling go down, the scars heal and let your body decide how to maintain a new eating regimine. All this takes time and patience. In reality, the majority of weight loss for most people doesnt start until they reach the sweet spot, which usually takes several fills.

Human body weight fluctuates. If you're going to weigh daily, you really need to prepare yourself for swings from 1-5 pounds. Quite often, gains are completely unrelated to what we put in our mouths. They do NOT reflect a gain of body fat.

Exactly! Only weigh everyday if you can truly believe this and not let it set you up for a bad day. If watching normal, everyday weight fluctuations makes you feel bad about yourself, save the weigh-ins for once a week.

I'm on mushies now, and I weigh daily and my weight will go up .5, down .2, down.6, up .2.... (for example) but the trend is downwards-- Just *not everyday* is downwards.

Chin up!! :o

I agree with BetsyB. I weigh daily and I have learned to look at the times of month I stall or gain and have been able to see that it usually coordinates with OV/TOM. So , it no longer bothers me. Sometimes it takes me two weeks before my weight goes down again. This first few months has been such a learning process. Get to know how your body reacts to all of the changes that are being made. I am only about 6wks out and learn daily still.

Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
