Not losing weight?

Okay, I lost 18 pounds the first week of my surgery and have only lost an additional 5 pounds. I really do not feel any restriction when it comes to food, but I limit myself and try to ignore the hunger. I work out 5 days a week and notice that I am losing body fat but not actual weight. Is this normal or is there something possibly wrong? I cannot go for a fill until 7 weeks out. Please tell me what I am feeling is normal.

Yep. Normal. Keep up the good work and try not to look at that scale too much. When you are exercising, especially, it lies!!!!

The good news is, you are hungry and healing nicely and will be ready for your first fill on schedule. I was so tight post-surgery I didn't get my first fill for 3 months. And I lost 15 pounds in 12 days and not a bit more until the week before my first fill.

You are normal! More normal than me even! Okay, so I'm not normal at all so don't take that as a compliment...but you get the idea.

Thanks Kathy! It just feels like all the stress and work put towards this is not working. It is great to know that this is normal!

So that pesky fat is going away, right? Who cares what you weigh if your clothes fit better?

Good Luck!!

Yeah, well, the best news is that this means you have less weight to lose! You are gaining muscle mass, which means that your body becomes more efficient at burning calories. Which means that you win. :)

You have not been filled, and the band doesn't really work as designed without a fill.

Normal!!! If you watched the Biggest Loser, you remember how they would work out like crazy and then weigh in and nothing would come off or even gain weight. All together....MUSCLE WEIGHTS MORE THEN FAT........ You really need to pay more attention to the comfort of your clothes and use a measuring tape along with your scale. You don't want to get discouraged with seeing the numbers on the scale.

You go Ms. Tiffany, you are doing an excellent job.:banana:banana:banana

Tiffany, you've lost 23 lbs in the first month. If you don't lose another ounce for the next four months you will STILL be in the realm of normal bandster weight loss.

You're doing great!! Relax!! :)

I was banded 10-11-05 and lost 30 lbs b/4 surgery and 10 lbs the first week after surgery but none since. My doctor told me that by the end of this 5-6 week healing phase, that I wouldn't even feel like I have a band, and that is so true!! I have felt very frustrated at times, but then reading about others after surgery experiences on here, has helped to keep me from getting crazy. My doctor said he had put the larger band on me so I am guessing that without any fill yet, the opening is gradually getting larger and larger, therefore why I am hungry all of the time!! I am (im!)patiently waiting my first fill too!!! I am using the goal of "not gaining" as my current plan. It's less stressful!!

I was banded 8/04, and my weight has come off in cycles.. I loose alot and then nothing for a while. The best way to judge the loss of weight is with clothes. I feel like I am not doing anything and then try on something I do not think will fit and it is a little big... The best feeling. Just keep plugging away.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
