Uses for Unflavored Protein Powder

Recommended Posts

I just bought a package of unflavored Protein Powder to help my Protein intake. I would like suggestions for ways to use it. Can you put it in hot things etc? Thanks

I add mine to Soups or chili. People say you can mix it with just about any food.

The unjury brand states on the side of the jar not to heat to a temp. over 130.

I put my unflavored Protein Powder in my oatmeal in the mornings.

I have put it in pudding, hummas, crystal light. I don't really care for it in hot liquids b/c the texture is wierd.

There's a trick to using it in hot foods. You have to add the Protein to the already-hot food in a very specific way, or "temper" it--or it will clump.

This goes for flavored Protein powders, too---say, if you want to make a warm chocolate Protein Drink.

First, you add a bit of tepid Water to the powder--just enough to make a paste. Stir into that paste---and let it sit while you prepare your hot stuff.

When the food you're adding is warm, but not yet very hot, slowly add an ounce or two to the protein stirring vigorously as you do this. Adding the warm to the protein starts getting it "used" to heat. Then, you can add the hot liquid or food--again stirring as you add.

I use it in Soups and broths, chili, Greek yogurt (with a little good-quality vanilla and Splenda)---on a day when I haven't gotten quite enough protein, I pretty much dump it in whatever I'm having to bolster my protein for the day.

OK thanks, I think I understand. What brand of unflavored Protein do you buy? I just got the GNC brand because that was all they had. I did notice that other brands had less sugar.

I use unjury unflavored. You can mix it with anything. Today I had it with 8 oz. of light orange juice and it was yummy!

Betsy,

Have you ever cooked anything w/ it? I wanted to add it to a ricotta mixture when making a spinach lasagna, but I wasn't sure how it would turn out and didn't want to ruin an entire pan and never had a chance to experiment. (I'm a tax accountant and have been a bit busy the past month or so and haven't had time to do a lot of cooking)

Thanks,

be careful with the GNC brand, that is what i use and the unflavored while fine in cold drinks has never worked for me in hot foods.. it always clumps and gets really yucky looking .. like curdling milk.. EW!
