can't quit sliming!

Recommended Posts

OK, I'm new to stuff gettting stuck, but some chicken didn't go down about 2 hours ago and I coughed/pb'ed/whatever it up. Thought everything was ok, waited awhile (20 min or so), drank some tea. Tea came up. Now something still feels stuck and I am sliming like crazy.

Any suggestions??

Colleen

After the chicken got stuck, which irritated your stoma, it causes some minor inflammation and probable swelling. Take tiny sips of something warm, the tea is probably a good idea, just sip it very slowly. You might even want to stay on liquids for the next day or so until it calms down.

Hope this helps. All part of having a band, but I think it's worth it.

Definately stay on liquids for at least a day or two after THAT trauma! Stand in the doorway and reach up to touch the top and stretch it out.

Okay, now it's hard for me to suggest this and only youcan tell if this is a good idea or not so if it sounds like NOT a good idea, DON'T do it. Stand at the sink and take a good -sized sip/drink of something cold and sweet like Crystal Light. If you are still stuck with some chicken, it will either make it pass or it will make you PB, which might loosen the stuck chicken. I have also heard Sprite suggested, since it's carbonated but I think it's just liquid that matters.

Think of what it would take to get something unstuck from a funnel...it has to go down or up, but it can't stay there for long, right? And if it's there, sipping is all you will be able to do without spilling over the top, right?

I dunno. That's a tough one. Give that swollen band a good rest, though. Good luck and keep us posted.

Oooooh ouchie ouchie. I just had a prolong "stuck" today too, just after my second fill yesterday. For me, sips of pretty warm Water, small sips either help it pass or bring it up (like the best me said). The warm helps stuff open so give it a try. Sorry you have a prolong stuck. That ain't worth a damn!!

OUCH! I am so sorry that happened to you. I almost had a bad moment last night at dinner with my hubby and kids. They wanted Chinese and I figured I would eat the grilled salmon. Well, after my fill last week I have been eating fish but I think it was a little dry and I had to stop, get up and go to the bathroom and walk around for a bit and stretch until the pain passed and then I was fine. And it killed me not to be able to drink the large glass of Water in front of me! I knew that if I did I would for sure have something come back up. So far I haven't had anything get stuck or come back up *knocking on wood*!! I have figured out that the smaller and more wet the bite is the better! sauces and gravy are a big factor anymore, just have to watch the calories in them. And what others have said about the warm tea, even coffee or hot lemon water might help. But just watch those bite sizes!! Take care.

Thanks for all your suggestions. It was a long and very miserable night, but at about 3:30 a.m. (8 hours!) it "went away". I guess it finally passed through. I was so scared that I was going to have to go to the hospital. I was a self-pay and my husband was not 100% behind me getting this done, so I was worried about all those aspects of having messed it up.

For those of you who haven't experienced it, and Jack referred to it, you MUST be mindful while you eat. Last night I had nuked the Lean Cuisine and wanted to catch the few last minutes of a TV show, so I took a bite before I even sat down. Old habits kicked in and that bite was down in nothing flat. I cannot watch TV and eat like in the old days. It's bad for you anyway, but I've learned my lesson on that now!

Anyway, I am a little sore, and very, very careful about what goes in right now. I knew those extra jellos would come in handy. I'm playing it very safe for a few days. Thanks again for all your help!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
