Greetings Everyone,

Long time reader, first time poster. I spoke with my nutritionist about coffee and she told me that small amounts were OK, as long as it wasn't black. I saw my surgeon last week and she said, "so how are you doing giving up your morning coffee? "

I'd like to get everyone's opinion on coffee or no coffee. It sounds silly, but giving up my morning cup will probably be my biggest challenge.:)

Thx

Maggly

My docs office lets you have it back, in limited amount, after 1 month. I have 1 mug each morning.

I read an article yesterday written by a nutritionist at our local hospital that recommended coffee for weight loss. (Not a lap band article) So I think the professional opinions vary.

Interesting. I have some posts on here where people put their morning scoop of chocolate Protein Powder in their coffee to make it mocha-ish. Perhaps switching to at least a half-caf would be beneficial? Just thinking out loud.

I don't mean for this to enable you but I still drink coffee. I no longer add sugar and real cream to my coffee, however, I substitute low fat Creamer or 2% milk and drop the sweetener.

I'd never thought of adding the Protein powder to it so that's a pretty darn good idea.

Perhaps it would help if you ask your Nut or your Doc why they say limited to no coffee in your diet. Sometimes it helps to understand their logic.

Best of Luck!

I use coffee sometimes to make the Protein Shake with lots of ice. Kinda like an iced coffee. I put some splenda in it and it is almost enjoyable. (Still don't like the Protein shake drink.)

Thx for the responses everyone. I like the idea of the Protein powder in the coffee. I think I'm going to give it up for 2 weeks after my surgery, then start slowly and see how I do.

My surgery is this Tuesday, wish me luck :)

I actually just got some Truvia at the store so I could drink some coffee without the sugar... I usually drink milk in it but I thought maybe just not as much? And I use sugar free flavorings too....:)

I still drink coffee, I'd rather die before giving it up. I dont go in for fattening confectionary coffees though, I like it plain with a dash of skim milk.

My doctor said coffee was fine. I add either a scoop of vanilla or a scoop of chocolate to it every morning (instant latte or mocha)!

I think putting Protein powder in your coffee is a great idea! Why didn't I ever think of that???

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
