so i know that most folks have issues with rice and Pasta. well, some of my favorite things include rice and pasta. so i was thinking.... what if someone just pureed the crud outta something that included the rice or pasta? would that make a difference in how it was handled by the new pouch or the band? i'm preparing ideas for my upcoming mushies phase. lol

I was banded 3/2, and my mushie stage was at 10 days. Anything I craved, I put in a blender (this normally would have not been appetizing, but when you have been on liquids for 4 weeks it sounds great). I put a steak in the blender with beef broth and A1 sauce, then spooned it over mashed potatoes - tasted just like steak and a baked potato! I put chef boyardee ravioli in the blender - tasted just like the real thing! Spagetti O's with meatballs - even better. The best part - even lost weight during the mushie stage! My doctor said eat anything you can put in the blender!

I didn't put anything in the blender during my mushie stage. It all just seemed a bit gross to do that. I found plenty of things to eat that were mushie already.

But, as the above poster gave examlpes, it works great for some.

There's a difference between mushy and pureed. I would think that cooking either rice or Pasta less al dente than usual would have the desired effect.

I had a puree stage, and did blend Proteins. But pureed Pasta just wouldn't be pasta, IMO.

During my mushies phase, I was lucky to have enough room for the Proteins (which you need to eat first) and veggies to have room for rice and Pasta. Plus, simple, refined carbs are not conducive to weight loss. Maybe whole wheat pasta or brown rice instead?

i agree with you betsy. pureed Pasta just isn't gonna be the same. however, there are some great canned Soups i love and want to be able to eat but they have rice or noodles in them and wanted to see if that would go over as long as it were pureed first.

i'm not big on spaghettios and ravioli outta the can but it's good to know they worked well being blended and you got what you wanted outta them lisain.

today we went to a easter thing for the kids (early, i know) and they all ate while we were there. but by the time we left i was starving. so hubby picked me up some chili's chicken enchilada Soup on the way home. i put it in my hamilton beach personal blender (my first time taking it outta the box i must admit) and that thing pureed that Soup up til it literally was a liquid! and it tasted just as good as usual. i even added in half a packet of my powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored Protein for 10 more grams of Protein. it was awesome.

now i'm super excited about the abilities of my personal blender to make things into liquids that i can have.

i'm totally full and happy now and ready for a nap. only problem now is that i'm having trouble figuring out when i'm full..... hmmmm.....

I am thinking you could have just had the Soup without putting it in the blender. ....... just chew any little pieces well ...... just a thought. You are in the soft/mushy stage right? not full liquid?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
