erikaw1971 0 Posted March 19, 2010 I just found out that I did a CPAP mask fitting and CPAP titration sleep study yesterday/last night for nothing!:frown: A few minutes ago called the bariatric center to see what, if anything was missing from my chart so that I could make sure that the file went to Dr. Vallina for review and insurance approval pronto. They said we were only missing my PCP clearance letter. (She was supposed to do that two weeks ago, but whatever, she has no problem giving clearance.) I said, well, we're waiting for Pulmonology, too, but that was just finished last night and we should get it in a couple of weeks. She said nope...you got Pulmonology clearance March 15th. No. No nonononono! The nurse at Pulmonology said I needed to continue to get a mask fitting and CPAP titration. Argh!!!! What a waste of time and insurance company money. I need a beer/wine/margarita...and I don't even drink.
RavenClaw779 2 Posted March 19, 2010 Hmm - I went through something similiar. The Bariatric Practice I use had me have a chest xray, pulmonary consult, blood gases - all clear. But the pulmonologist insisted that even though I had no markers for sleep apnea I HAD to go to the sleep lab, and he even scheduled the CPAP fitting before having any results. See my blog for the full story. Suffice it to say that I didn't really have enough of an issue to warrent a CPAP but was basically told NO CPAP - NO SURGERY; in fact the surgeon told me that if I didn't bring it with me, the procedure would be cancelled. I brought it and guess what - they never even took it out of the case! Ditto - what a waste of time and money!
ThreeDaysLong 0 Posted March 20, 2010 SAME situation right here...I just met my surgeon yesterday and I told him they made me get a CPAP machine...he said yeah they do it to cover their butts (Anesthesiologist butt)...My surgeon said I will never need it...I have one symptom (snoring) only when my allergies are bad...and the pulmonologist said it was a mild case...which according to the three doctors I asked about it said it was NOTHING at all...just do what you need to get the surgery...I plan on returning mine after surgery...
