Can the human body absorb that much Protein at one time? I heard that the body can only absorb so much protein at a time like 20g or so. I was thinking about getting some whey protein, but I was curious about this.

I love the Whey Protein body fortress muscle whey protein. You dont have to do the whole 50 grams at once. I know mine is 26 grams of protein for 1 scoop and 130cal and you can add Water or milk. Dr says its good as long as carbs and sugars are low

Funny you say that! My husband just brought me another "sample" It is a 2oz shot, whey Protein by body fortress that has 26g of Protein, 110, 0 fat, 1carb and 0 sugars.. It is fruit punch flavored.

BUT they are $2.00 each.. so I was just telling him I'd have to use the big jug.

Does Whey protein bulk you up?

I have tried the chocolate which i love , the vanilla is OK if you want to add stuff to it like fruit and thing like that, i have it plain. They have strawberry that I haven't tried. I did try the punch shots those I'm not crazy about because I'm not a Water drinker and I'm drinking crystal lite all day so I needed to brake it up, and they are expensive. The large container of powder is cheap and easy. If you go out you can put a scoop in a baggie and always ask for water or carry bottled water or just get some skim milk. I have even heated up water or milk and drank it like hot coco very tasty. Desperate times bring desperate measures. LOL

I am one of the lucky ones I guess, I'm a month post op and i am never hungry. I have been on solids and can only eat 4 oz and I'm over full so I have been doing the Protein Drink for Breakfast. When I was 2 weeks post op I thought i was hungry around 4 but we dont eat dinner till 6 so I would have half of 1 scoop and 2 oz of milk and that filled me till dinner sometimes to full to fit dinner. So for me i find these do bulk you up.

I used the same stuff....One serving of that stuff, mixed with 1% milk, gives you 60 gram of Protein in one serving...Thats almost all the protein you need for the day. My doc says to shoot for 60-70 a day. so I always drink a Protein Shake for breakfast and get my protein out of the way; then I just eat/drink whatever I want the rest of the day and I don't really have to worry about the protein... Its good stuff...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
