matilda01 0 Posted March 21, 2010 Hi fellow March 22 surgery people, Woo Hoo! Our day is almost here! I've lost 10 pounds since I started the liquid diet on Tues, 3/16. Gotta take magnesium citrate at 2:00 today (why, I am not sure, I've already been "running" to the bathroom today ). I am not scared (yet), but I really just want to get this done!      :smile2: :tongue2:

delopez3 0 Posted March 21, 2010 Ginger: My surgery is also at 10 am and I have to be there about 8-8:30 as well. Matilda: I started my liquid diet on Tuesday also and I am down 9 lbs. I really really want to eat something at this point. I am just nervous about the anesthesia. But, I am so ready to get it over with and move on to the next phase. Good Luck to all of us. gingerjane 5 Posted March 23, 2010 Checking in to see how all of my fellow 3/22 bandsters are doing! I'm up and moving around. Trying to wean off of the Vicodin today. We'll see how that goes. LOL! My worst pain is the shoulder pain from the gas- hands down! I'm cleared for pureed foods today. Might try some liquid Soup here in a bit. My stomach is starting to growl. Port pain is a bit tender, too. But, all in all, it wasn't as bad as I thought.
delopez3 0 Posted March 23, 2010 Hi ginger, glad to hear things are going well. My surgery went well too. I haven't taken any pain meds. Didn't even fill the meds. The biggest discomfort is the gas and chest pressure type deal. Kinda feel like I can't take a full breath of air. The post incision is kinda big but the other ones are tiny. Have been up and about pretty well since yesterday. Weirdest part is I have a bit on nostalgic feeling. Kinda like moarning of the no more pig out and really letting go at a party or buffet thing. I am sure it will pass as I see the pounds come off. I have not been really hungry. They told me 3 days of liquids and then on to mushies. I don't think I am gonna do that. I keep seeing those videos by Dr. Ortiz where mentions the importance of liquids for 21 days for proper healing and I keep think 3 days is WAY too little. Hope eveyone else is doing well. gingerjane 5 Posted March 23, 2010 Awesome! I'm doing the pureed, but they're pretty liquid. I can pour it off of a spoon. What I did is my mom made me three types of Soups and we added Protein powder to each of them to give me the 80 grams of Protein a day. I had my veggie Soup today (that way I get some fiber!) but like I said - it's pouring off of a spoon. LOL! The thing is - I'm not really hungry. I think two to three weeks of this should be fine. I also reconnected with a friend that has lost 166 lbs! She had gastric bypass and was telling me that it's really hard when people keep asking you questions. I hope to lose enough to where someone asks me something. LOL!
delopez3 0 Posted March 23, 2010 I am sure someone will ask in no time at all Ginger. Hope everyone else is doing well and checks in soon. Dee
matilda01 0 Posted March 24, 2010 Hi everybody, I'm banded now, too! My surgeon said my surgery went perfectly. I've had a lot of gas pain in my chest & abdomen. Yesterday was so bad I felt like I just couldn't breathe. Had to take lots of pain medicine and was on oxygen for a long while. When I finally got to my room from the post anesthesia area, the nurse got me up and walking right away and that helped. I've still been walking a lot, that is really the thing that helps the most. Still taking liquid Lortab for pain. Not sure if I will even try to wean off that until the gas calms down. I have 5 incisions that were glued closed & look pretty good, but now I'm getting some bruising, too. All in all, like most everyone else, the gas is by far the worst part of this. delopez3 0 Posted March 24, 2010 Matilda: Glad you are doing well and on the mend. I have to agree, gas pain is the worse. I have hardly any incisional pain. The port site a bit but not completely tolerable. THe gas pain however is horrible. Today it is finally a bit better. But the day of and after surgery I felt like I couldn't take deep breaths and like I really needed to burp but nothing would come up. Just felt a huge tightness in my chest and it would take about 20 seconds to go away. I seriously doubt I would be able to tell the difference between a heart attack and that pain at this point. At night I feel the gas cramps as well. Hopefully it means all that gas is being reabsorbed into my intesting and I can finally get it out:blush:. Anyway, I hope each passing day if good for you too. rldm 0 Posted March 24, 2010 Hi everyone! I had my surgery on Monday and things went fine. The sea sick patch is still messing with my eyes so excuse me if I make mistakes in my typing, eveeything is very blurry. Dr. Hollis found a large hiatal hernia while he was in there and reparied it. I pretty much slept from the time I got home Monday until Tuesday. Got out and went to the doctor with my duaghter on Tuesday and walked around CVS while waiting on a prescription. Tuesday I used Extra Strength Tylenol for pain and today I have not used anything. I just got back from a very slow 30 min walk. What I am disappointed about is that between the morning when I weighed in for surgery and this morning I have GAINED 6 pounds. Is this normal? I don't remember anyone else talking about this. If no one else has had this I may call the doctor today. It really dissapoints me. Rita
matilda01 0 Posted March 24, 2010 I gained, too. When I weighed myself yesterday in clothes I had gone up 7 pounds. This morning I was back down about 4 pounds. I think it has to do with the IV meds and maybe even the gas. I'm not taking in many calories at all (maybe 300 in a day because I have to stay on Clear Liquids until Monday). Whatever caused the gain, I'm sure it's temporary!
