Hi All.

Just thought I would introduce myself. I was banded in April '07 by Dr Dillemans in Bruges. Did great and lost about 50 of th e100 I had to lose. Then I got complacent and about 9lb has crept back on due to biscuits, wine and general crap!!! Need to get back on track so have come back to t'internet for support. We have a holiday planned in August to Germany via motorbike so it's got to go or the bike won't gat past Rosslare!! I live in Mullingar and look forward to reading posts.

Deborah

PS Tried some other forums but think I need a good irish boot up the you know what -

Hi Deborah,

Was just reading about your "problems" and they mirrored mine so much. I got banded last year 30th June 2009 in Brussels was doing so good eating and walking and the weight was slowly but surely dropping off. I had 40lbs of my 80lbs to lose off by November and I was getting loads of compliments and bang everthing stopped. Complacent how are you!! I now like yourself love indulging in wine, biscuts and general crap as long as it has chocolate in it!! Iam very much a sweet tooth sort of person, if only I enjojed savory foods better this band would really be a miracle.. But of course I love crap and it goes down so easily no feeling stuck or that Iron fist feeling in your chest.. chicken breast or bar of chocolate. chicken sledom wins.. Every morning I give a talking to myself (haven't quite lost it yet!) that thats it no more crap, but by noon a biscuts has usually reached my lips.. I keep saying now that the weather is changing (no more big freeze) I'll go out and be active more.. still waiting. Your holiday in Germany does sound exciting although you are very brave to do it via motorbike. We are going to Lanzorote in Easter and did that motivate me to start losing again..NOPE!! If only you can buy motivation I most likely would be very poor. Sorry to babble on hopefully we can get each other motivated!! By the way I am a 42 year housewife with 2 girls (10 and nearly 5) I'm a Clare lass living in mayo, Good luck on your journey I knew it was going to be slow so I'm still delighted with myself I just need to start losing again. I have only had 2 fills last October was the last (didnt want to be 2 full for Christmas and now my excuse is don't want to be 2 full for my holidays can you just imagine struggling to eat on holidays) I'm off to Dublin the first Thursday in May for a fill no more excuses!! Where do you have your fills. I'll finish my rant now. hope to chat soon

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
