how soon after being banded to start ab workout?

Recommended Posts

Hi I was banded on Feb 6, 2010 and wanted to know if anyone has a clue when it is safe to start ab workouts without hurting your band position and myself.

I was banded on March 3rd. My doc told me to wait 2 weeks before I start walking. On sat. I went on the eliptical for 2 miles and walked the track for a while after and I am swollen today. My stomach is kinda bruised feeling above my navel. So I wouldn't rush it!

I think it was after my 6 week check up. I was able to walk on tread mill but not do other exercise until the nurse assistant released me to do them. She gave me the ok after my stitches healed and my swelling was down. I think it was either 6 weeks or 1 month. Hope you get other responses.

Thanks everyone. I have actually been quite active approx. 2 weeks after my surgery have been doing, 30 min on the treadmill at least 4 times per week as well as the occasional bike ride.

I asked this week and I was told by my doctor that as long as it doesn't hurt my stomach during and I don't have problems after, I can do some strength training. So for the past two days I have been doing the Jillian Michaels 30 day Shred.

Good luck to all the bandsters. Exercise is important but don't overdo it. If you feel uncomfortable in your stomach at all whilst exercising STOP!

Are you wearing a band/wrap on your stomach? I think that would help me.

No, I am not wearing anything. But I do hear from some of my friends who have been banded that they wear the spanks tshirt or a girdle while on the treadmill to minimize the jiggle and bounce.

I was banded on 12/17/09 and I asked my doctor this very question on my last visit last Wednesday and I was told I could have started six weeks after surgery. I did try once and was sore. I'm adding abs to my workout this week.

Don't forget it takes your body 6-8 weeks to heal from surgery (any surgery). Definately follow your surgeon's giudlines. Some complications of exercising or even lifting heavy objects too soon is hernia at the incision sites or issues with the port if not completely healed into place.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
