sherrilyn 0 Posted March 17, 2010 Thank you BCBS....Cannot believe how quick and painless this process has been for me so far. (Knock on wood.. I don't want to jinx it) I just received Insurance approval within 5 days of when the info was sent, and my surgery is scheduled for 3/29... It really baffles me how some people are having such a hard time for insurance approval. I guess each situation is different.

I also have BCBS of NJ and really had no problems at all with the process. Once my 6 months was up and all of my info was sent in I got the approval REALLY fast. Congratulations on your surgery date. Please keep us posted.

JudyDF 0 Posted March 27, 2010 Hi, I am from Belmar not that far from you. Yes I am the one who got her interested in the surgery infact this Tuesday I am schduled for mine. My insurance is Qualcare so I got approved rather easily but she has Horizon who told her at first all she needed was precertification. So she went through the six months of doctors, testing etc. Then our Md called her insurance and that is when she found out about the no weight loss surgery clause. She can't even appeal since it is in her policy. She found out after the fact another employee was denied 2 years ago. I told her to find another job first they made her take a $10,000 pay cut to keep her job and now this. They are not very nice people to work for. I told her I would try and help her out money wise but it is just too expensive with the docter and the hospital. Their insurance policys change is May maybe with the new health care bill the company will not be able to put that clause in being it is preventative medicine. Unfortunately her company isn't the only one that I have heard of that has that clause. But they at the same time don't want to promote obesity. Go figure. But having that clause honestly doesn't save them money. In the long run with so many people being over weight they get sick more, therefore requiring more sick leave..so it's a vicious cycle. Hopefully you are right and things will change. I would tell her to start putting in some resumes. And that would be one of the first things that I asked during an interview. 'Does your company have a WLS clause.' I can only imagine how disappointed she must feel right now. So sorry this had to happen and I hope that things work out. As for you, good luck on your surgery.
