I'm just wondering...

Recommended Posts

I had my lapband a month ago. I was not hugely overweight, but it was enough to bother me (183 lb.s). I lost a quick +/-12 lbs. and inches all over my body, but haven't lost anything in awhile. Furthermore, I developed this stabbing pain (below my waist, on my left) and don't know whether to rush to the doctor, or not. I know it is not my appendix, since I don't have my appendix.

My concerns are twofold: When will the the weight loss kick in again and I'm wondering if this pain will disappear? I just do not want to have surgery, again, if there is a deeper cause to my pain, so I'm avoiding the doctor.

It's hard to address the weight question without knowing what you're eating (and how much). In general, the rate of loss of someone without a great deal to lose will be slower than the rate of those with more to lose.

At a month out, you should be planning on seeing your doctor at frequent intervals for the next year or so---every six weeks is pretty typical. You'll be assessed, your progress measured, and your band adjusted. (There's not much point in having a band if you don't use it!)

Your pain should be discussed with him/her. If you don't have an appointment, make one.

Off the top of my head, though, I wonder whether it's port-related. My port site still gets quite sore--and the pain can be persistent.

The one thing I CAN tell you with great certainty: avoiding the doctor will NOT help you avoid necessary treatment. It can, however, severely compound a problem that might begin as something very easily treated.

Make that appointment today.

Betsy is EXACTLY right! You should call your band doctor ASAP! I'm having my surgery on the 22nd and they've already scheduled my 2 week and 4 week post-op appointments. You should have seen your doctor by now.

Hope it's nothing serious and just a little port pain. :scared2:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
