princessaktmc 1 Posted March 17, 2010 For some reason the foods that i cannot have or that my band doesn't tolerate well have not been an issue....I used to drink milk like crazy...several big glasses a day and my doc doesn't want me to drink it right now because of the extra sugars so i haven't drank it until the other night i wanted a drink of milk so i got one and i didn't like it....it was REALLY weird..I mean i used to drink close to a gallon a day....Its seems as though my tastes have changed...I used to hate Sauerkraut before surgery but now i love it...:scared2: Don't worry things will happen for the better in due time... anna_ree 0 Posted March 17, 2010 i dont know from experience, since i have only had the band for a few days, but my friend has had the band for over 3 years and she still eats almost everything she did before. She just eats LESS of it. i asked her today because i was worried that id miss food too! i asked about pizza and she said of course she still eats pizza, the thin crust is easier to eat though and she said she sometimes has trouble with chinese food. so ya she can eat pretty much everything still. but of course, everyone is different. i just hope i can still eat my fav foods, even if it is just a few bites. Ohm 0 Posted March 17, 2010 Do I miss food? This is a difficult question for me, and the answer is both yes and no. No, when I look at my new body and my new clothes. When I walk into a boutique and pick up a pair of jeans or a new top and know that it will fit - at those moments I dont miss food. When I walk down a street and feel other peoples admring glances, when I see other ladies and children and gentlemen strugglling with exactly the conditions oof overweight and physical immobility I was so familiar with just a few short years ago - at those times if someone offered me a loaf of fresh bread I would gladly feed it to the birds. But when we get together with people who don't know me so well, of when there is a family feast gathering (Christmas day, Easter, Sunday lunch, dashein, divali, tij, etc) those are the times when I feel the loss of food as keenly as a best friend. When my family is sitting enjoying my best efforts foodwise, that is when I feel deprived. When everyone is sitting round with heaped plates, that's when I feel something missing. When we are sitting enjoying a movie with a bowl of Snacks - even healthy ones - and I can't partake, that makes me feel a bit of an outsider. But is it worth it? Yes. If I was allergic to soya and it made me break out in hives, I would avoid it and in so doing avoid the allergic reaction. The way I see it is that I am allergic to "food-in-quantity" - it makes me break out in fat.:scared2:
BetsyB 9 Posted March 17, 2010 I really haven't missed it. I mean--sure, I have fleeting moments when, in a restaurant, the bread basket passes me and I think, "Ah, bread" kind of wistfully. But the yearning is really more out of habit than really, truly missing the experience of eating the bread. I still don't quite have ideal restriction, so I do get quite hungry before meals. During those times, I do have to tell myself, "No!" so that I don't eat inappropriately. I have to make very conscious choices. But I really don't miss food, per se. While I love good food, I find that there are bazillions of ways to make the foods that are now best for me really appetizing and delicious. I don't feel deprived of the "good stuff," because I'm eating good stuff! It might make a difference that I was not really a comfort eater preop--I was a overeater. At meals, I served myself too much. At other times food was available, I'd eat without thinking. I had poor habits, but didn't generally soothe myself with food. Now, the overeating is not possible, and I think before eating. But I honestly don't feel deprived. (Before my last fill, though, I would happily have gnawed the legs off my furniture for fuel! I was hungry--all the time!)

Yes, I agree about the snack, but seeing others with heaping plates?? I get nauseous looking at all of that food, and seeing just how fast they all really eat. AND that it used to be me!! I'm stunned really. I can't fatham that I ate like that at one time. Sure, sometimes i wish i could eat more, an dfeel that satisfying "Full" feeling in my tummy and NOT in my chest. But, Que sera Que sera , ya know? :-) :scared2: I feel SEXY in my size 18 pants!! My goal is to make a 10-12 ... Ans I know I'd NEVER get there is I ate like I used to... Keep it up... We're ALL so worth it!!!

GoddessNar 0 Posted March 17, 2010 Like many people, I love cookbooks and thinking about food. I'm even writing a cookbook of my own, believe it or not. And yes, I do still miss certain things. I can eat Pasta and bread sometimes so that's not a problem, but I miss...Big Macs. Yeah. I can't eat them, though. They hurt my stomach like crazy. I miss Coke too, but those things are not good for me and I know that. I also know that I still have a long journey ahead of me. I need to lose at least another 45-50 pounds. It's been almost a year and I've lost about 50 but I really need to step up my game. You will find that there are little substitutions that will satisfy your cravings in time. I can't even FIND good Mexican (or any Mexican, really) here, but tonight I made a batch of chili with soy crumbles so it's lower in fat and had a nice bowl of it. Little substitutions do help.
