Ok.....

I had to return to the ER the day of my surgery (3/1/10) because I couldn't pee. They put in a catheter and was told that it was just the anesthesia. I was able to pee by midnight that night. No problems until....Thursday night (3/11/10) when I stuggled to pee. Long story, short...I went to the dr. on Saturday and he told me that I had a bladder infection and it was probably from the catheter. Has anyone else experienced this? How long does it take the clear up? I'm on 2 antibiotics plus a med that is supposed to make my urethrea relax. I'm a male and was wondering if any other guys out there have experienced this. It's really freaking me out. I couldn't even pee after dinner. Any comments or words of wisdom would be appreciated from anybody.

Chris

The antibiotics should take care of the bladder infection. But if you still have trouble urinating by morning, you should definitely speak to your doctor again as soon as possible. Hang in there. Once you get the infection cleared up, you will feel much better.

same problem here.

i didn't know they cathed me until i called my dr later in the day of surgery and he told me they cathed.

he told me to go to the ER.

why in the world do they cath for an hour surgery.

i was banded 1/12/10 and still having to see my urologist.

mine got so bad i had to self cath.

i could only squeeze out a few drops at a time on my own.

finally things are better but not normal yet.

hang in there and keep us posted.

Sorry, no words of wisdom. Just wanted to tell you that I hope you feel better soon. I had a bladder infection in the past and know how painful they can be.

Infection after catheterization is very, very common; many/most doctors avoid catheterizing for short procedures to prevent infection.

It's also common for infection to develop after urinary retention due to anesthesia. (Add in that the retention itself often requires catheterization, and the likelihood is compounded.)

It's really inconvenient, and very uncomfortable, but if promptly identified and treated, should resolve quickly. Be sure to get plenty of fluids--it really helps.

Hope you feel better fast!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
