define what proper restriction feels like...

Recommended Posts

What will the proper restriction or "sweet spot" feel like? Is it a high chesty tightness? or stuffed tummy feeling? or what? Some make it sound like it's a hard to swallow sensation. If there is no feeling of restriction can the band still be effective till a fill can be done?

When I eat properly - as in chew well, small bites, and foods that arent REALLY hard to eat - fruit for me is very hard, ugh - then restriction feels like nothing. I just get a normal full tummy sensation after about 3/4 of a cup of food.

I never pb unless I make a significant user error or try to eat too soon after hard exercise.

I personally think that a lot of what people describe as their sweet spot sounds way way too tight. My lifestyle is not at all restricted by my band - for example I'm going with my grade sixes on school camp next week and am not at all concerned by what I'm going to eat - I will eat what I'm served! I dont plan specially for occasions or events, I dont freak about what I'm going to eat on a plane etc etc. I can eat absolutely anything, and I can be pretty much 100% sure that if I'm properly careful, embarrassing public pb's wont happen.

That to me is ideal restriction.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
