Help--Should I go the ER or wait until the office opens on Monday

Recommended Posts

I am about 5 1/2 months post lap band. About a month ago I was having some trouble with my band being too tight--particularly when it was really cold and snowy outside. So, I had some fill removed. Since then, I've been able to eat a little more than I should, I had even considered getting some back in. Last Thursday I had some problems eatting dinner (vomitted, but i wasn't sure if it was b/c I ate too fast). I work nights so I slept all day Friday. ONce I got up, I wasn't able to eat any food at all. I couldn't keep liquids down even. Saturday morning I had a coffee and I had a piece of fish for lunch and, while i had some pain, it eventually went down. I had a bottle of Water. I tried to eat a piece of string cheese in the afternoon and vomitted adn then couldn't keep any food or liquids down until right before bed, when I managed to have about 16 oz of water. This morning I tried to sip on some Gatorade and that didn't work out. My heart Rate isn't oo fast, so I can't be too terribly dehydrated. What concerns me is that, previously when I've vomitted its basically just been a combination of spit and what I've eatten. The last 2 days it seems like there are some gastric juices in there too--like I'm having some reflux and that's new to me. i'm afraid my band may have slipped. Should I go to the ER today and see if they can give me some IV pepcid and steriods to hold me over, or wait until my surgeon is in?

I would first call your surgeon's office to have the service page your surgeon so you can ask him/her what to do. Good luck to you, let us know how u are doing.

Whether or not you should go to the ER is a call that only you and your surgeon can/should make.

My experience is that if I regurgitate (for real) my stomach swells and I may have difficulty eating after that. I either have to take a break from eating and drinking altogether for maybe a whole day, but usually four - five hours. Then I try to sip Water or eat something that I normally have no problems getting down.

Maybe you just need to give your stomach a break and let the swelling go down. Give your surgeon a call and see what he/she has to say.

Good Luck to you.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
