I had my lapband done in april of 2006. I weighed 390 pounds. 18 months later, october of 2007 The doctor took all Fluid out of my band as I had lost all the weight I needed to. After the removal of the fluid I began to gain weight again and very rapidly. I did not have insurance any longer and could not afford a fill. February of 2009 I went back in for a fill and the doctor could not get any fluid into my port. He believed I have a port not functioning. He wanted me to get a port study and asked me to make an appt with x=ray for it. I still was uninsured and unable to get it done. I will have insurance again next month and am going to be looking into what the problem is. Has anyone had problems with there port. The dr. does the fill by feeling and not X-ray. He stated he believed he was in my port but when he pushed on the needle to release fluid the plunger would not move and he was pushing as hard as he could. Has anyone received a new port? What was the procedure? Has this happened to anyone and can anyone give me some useful info????

thanks

I am super glad you are going to get insurance, congratulations!!!

It sounds to me like you have a kink in your tubing. I hope you don't.

thanks.......if it is a kink in my tubing what can i expect???? This worrys me cause I desparetly need to get the weight off I have gained. I was hoping the lapband would be a weight lossing tool I could use for the rest of my life and am really disappointed I can't use it at the time.

Can I ask why your doctor took all the Fluid out? I am under the impression that the band is for life, and that the fluid stays in permanently, unless, of course, you were getting way below a healthy weight. Just curious as to his reasoning. Good luck with finding out the problem!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
