Is bread, pasta, rice and potatoes still your friend?

Recommended Posts

I can eat breads, crackers and potatoes prepared way! but I avoid Pasta and rice. I am having a problem with most meats too. I can eat ground beef and some times chicken but anything else relly gives me a problem.

I am able to eat them all, but I try to be good and not eat any of them except sometimes mashed potatoes. When I do eat them it is in very small portions.

bread, I can't touch it. I used to go to restaurants and if the bread was good I would fill up on that and tell them to pack my meal for home. Places like Red Lobster (oh those garlic rolls) Olive Garden and Logan's steak House were my favorites. Now I can't even take a small bite without it getting stuck and so painful.

I haven't had a problem with potatoes in any form, but usually have them mashed but I don't eat them often, probably once a month.

I never knew why everyone said to avoid rice until just now when I read that it keeps expanding after you eat it. I eat rice about once a week and haven't had a problem with it either.

My new favorite is the sweet potato fries from Trader Joe's. They are so good.

I use butternut squash to make my fries now instead of potatos or even zucinni chips, So I don't feel deprived

actually I have the same problem with fries they are by far the worst I dont know why but ill be slimming for 2 hours if I stick even on in my mouth sigh good old says when I would drench steak fries in ranch dressing and seasoning salt... though I guess I also had to walk around with my pants unbuttoned so its a trade off lol

I choose not to eat bread except toast or crescent rolls (which is not very often). I can eat rice with no problems, although I don't eat much (I try to limit my starches). No problems with potatoes. I don't eat too much Pasta, although I can eat it.

I'm not at the sweet spot but am working to get there, as I've had four fills so far.

No problem on bread or Pasta. Haven't tried rice. I did eat french fries the other day at a restaurant - it nearly came back up. Had to run to the bathroom and put my arms up. I don't eat much of pasta or bread tho.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
