1st day post op inquiries for experienced bandsters

Recommended Posts

hey ya'll. i got my band yesterday. today was my first day post op. they kept me in the hospital overnight givng me round the clock pain meds, digestion meds, nausea meds, and etc. now i'm home and am taking liquid lortab for, reglan for digestion, and zyrtec for mucous drainage in my throat. i've noticed that of my five incisions, only two hurt real bad. one is the port so i know that's expected, but the other is a small one with hard dark stiches that is right under the middle of my breasts. i've also got red bloody Fluid that is pooled in the plastic covering of one of the other incisions. the nurse said that was fine and that incision doesnt' hurt at all. i've noticed i get chest pains when i drink my proten shakes and Water and it really hurts. is any of this normal? when will it go away. should i be worried that those two incisions hurt so much worse than the others and that there's fluid under the bandage? should i be worried that my chest hurts so bad when i drink?

It could be gas related from the op but just to be on the safe side I would probably ring the surgeons office and have a chat with them. Better safe than sorry. My opinion only.

is it like gas pain or pressure? that will get better as the swelling and gas goes down

walk as much and fart as much as you can

if the drainage isn't getting larger keep an eye on it, if you are worried call your dr that is what you have them for

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
