3cc's at the time of surgery

Recommended Posts

My doctor puts 3cc's in your band at the time of surgery. Has anyone else had their doctor do the same? If so, how did it affect you?

Do you think you did better with a fill automatically? How was your first fill after surgery, especially with already having some restrictions?

If one good thing has come out of all of the reading I have done on this board, i am terrified to eat more than i am suppose to for the fear of throwing up or food getting stuck. So far I am day 3 post op and haven't had any problems. It take me a little bit longer to drink my Protein shakes but other than that all liquids are going down just fine. I need to increase the amount of water/tea i am drinking, yesterday I only got through 1 glass (by choice) but I was able to drink 3 Atkins shakes, a cup of chicken broth and a chocolate pudding.

Yes, they put a fill in during my surgery. I think it helped so I didn't need as many fills to get restriction.

It sounds like you are doing great.

My doctor didn't put anything in mine, said I wouldn't be able to swallow, because of the swelling.

I'm having issues with the throwing up part :wink2: I got my band on Monday, and I've thrown up 3 times, but nothing comes out, just spit, and its always after I take my antibiotics. I'm not sure what the deal is. I didn't have this problem the first couple days, just been the last, and I'm afraid to drink anything, in fear of throwing it up.

I gotta call the doc today to see what the deal is, cuz this sucks!

Yes, my doctor put 3ccs in my 12cc band during surgery. It made very little difference, as far as I could tell and even after my 1st fill (another 3ccs) I didn't have much restriction. The 2nd fill (another 1.5cc) did me in - over tight for 5 weeks until I finally got an unfill. They took out 2.5ccs, so back below my first fill amount BUT...I have restriction now when I didn't at 6ccs. Go figure.

I'm 10 days post-op. My surgeon put 4ccs in during surgery. He doesn't do it routinely, depends on the size of the patient, and my BMI was 35. I had no trouble swallowing the first 2 days, then 2 days of nausea and minimal intake, however my Dr thinks I had a virus at the same time. Since then I have gradually increased my intake and can drink 250ml in one go, though slowly. I just had my first pureed meal tonight, with no problems. Feel hunger now, but rarely, and very small amount fills me up.

We're all different, and so are the doctors, I guess.

I know my doctor puts in a fill sometimes during surgery. When I had my surgery I didn't get a fill. Then I heard from another patient of his that she got a fill during surgery so I asked my doc again and again and he told me I didn't have a fill in me. When I went to get my first fill he even showed me that there was nothing in my band before putting in the saline.

It really depends on the patient and the doctor.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
