Gaining Weight Before First Fill. Is that Normal?

Recommended Posts

I too gained a couple of lbs before my first fill and then only lost a couple of lbs after that. I'm now on my 4th fill and am probably at my sweet spot. I look back now and see that anytime I starve myself (like the all liquid pre-op diet) that I always gain back some of what I lost when I go back to food (even small amounts or "mushies"). My body is now used to having food 3 times a day, I eat about 1000 cal a day, concentrating on making sure to get all of the nutrients and Protein that I need and I walk 5 days a week for 30 minutes and the weight is falling off. Pretty much just like all of those that have lost weight have said... watch what I eat and exercise. I wanted to panic in the beginning but it's all good....

Christine,

I am 3 weeks out; banded on 2/22/10. I have lost 16 pounds post-op, and I have noticed 3 pounds over the last 4 days have creeped back on. I am all healed and the swelling is long gone. So....it seems some people put small amounts of weight back on before the first fill, and some don't (lucky dogs!). Chin up, walk tall and don't jump ship before the boat leaves the dock!

Start 217 pound, pre-surgery 184, current 172

(was down to 168)

Surgery Date: 02/22/10

The "simple" answer doesn't help with the scale, but hopefully with the mind.

Your body has just gone through a total and complete change from what it had been doing your entire life. ENTIRE LIFE I think needs to be emphasized.

YES you had surgery, YES you are eating next to nothing, YES you "think" you should be losing. The truth is, your body is getting acclimated to this new metabolism, new type and amount of food not to mention trying to heal itself from this major surgery.

I think we all get too focused on "well I'm eating almost nothing and lost so much pre-op, I should be losing." That is just not accurate for everyone. Some lose, some gain, some are sick, come aren't. Don't judge your body on what someone else's is doing.

LET YOUR BODY HEAL!! Let it acclimate itself to this "new stomach" and new diet. Let it get in a "rhythm" and all this equates to..GIVE IT TIME! I KNOW that is NOT what you want to hear, I KNOW you WANT to see the scale move, and by your simple logic seems like it should, but don't count on that. Dont focus on that to gauge your success. BE PATIENT!!!

It took me 3-4 months to truly start seeing results, and when I did my body was healthy and ready to change. Until then, it was just mostly confused as to what to burn, what to hold on to, etc.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
