What carbs do you eat for dinner?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

So after my 4th fill, I FINALLY feel like I have a lap band. Before my 4th fill, I had never PB'd, vomitted, gotten anything truly stuck and I could pretty much eat anything except for bread. I ate brown or wild rice for dinner regularly. BUT NOW, I've done all of the above, and I can't eat beef anymore, can't eat anything with white flour and I have to be careful in the morning while my band is still really tight. I've learned the hard way that the chewing really slowly thing is REAL.

I'm grateful, believe me. But I also want to know what carbs might work for dinner. I'm scared to try rice now. What do you eat for dinner or do you stick to Protein and veggies?

Thanks! And good luck to everyone! Your success stories inspire me.

I primarily stick with Protein and veggies, but have found that Beans work very well for me, both in terms of going down easily, and being satisfying as a "carb." (In my plan, they count as a Protein and/or veg...but they have that carb satisfaction thing going for them.)

My current favorite dinner is chicken chili with black Beans. It's got everything I need, and goes down beautifully.

When I was at proper restriction I pretty much did not eat carbs for dinner...now that I am at my goal, I have incorporated some carbs back into my meals--and have loosened my band a bit :wink2:

Thanks for the responses! I made some Beans to go with dinner, and they hit the spot. I hope that when I reach goal, I can add some other carbs back a tiny bit. Congrats on making your goal weight!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
