Exercise Programs After Surgery... What are you doing?

Recommended Posts

My surgery is tomorrow at 10am! Yay!

I was wondering what kind of exercise programs everyone is on...... how much, how long, how many days a week. Of course I know, the harder you work, the better the results.

Thanks for the post!

I don't do any extra exercise. I do my housework, climb stairs to my craft room, park a little further away, and sometimes actually get on my recumbant (sp?) bike. I plan to do better as soon as the weather permits. I am doing fine right now and don't want to lose any faster than I am doing.

I walk about 7 miles/day at about 4 mph (in two sessions: one in the morning, and one in the afternoon)--I find myself going further and faster each week, which I love. I am thoroughly addicted.

I have chronic pain issues (post-trauma), and right now am "babying" a relatively fresh cervical epidural (waiting for the swelling to go down and the meds to kick in)--but I also ordinarily do a weight-lifting regimen at the Y every other day, as well. I will be able to resume this tomorrow, I think. I don't usually do cardio at the gym--I really prefer to do it outdoors, no matter what the weather. I do use the equipment if snow has covered all my paths, though.

Right now, I'm saving for an annual all-you-can-"eat" pass at a local power Vinyasa yoga studio---I think that by summertime, I'll be able to add that to my repertoire. That way, I'll have cardio, strength, and flexibility accounted for.

Started using the Wii in November. I've been doing it everyday for 30 - 40 minutes. I also bowl once a week.

Want to join the Y and do Water aerobics.

I walk on the treadmill for 40 min. or do a step aerobic routine at home. I workout 5-6 times a week. I also do weight training with a trainer 3 days a week.

It was very very tough to get started but now I actually enjoy it. Congrats on your impending surgery. Hope you love the band as much as I do!

Good Luck! I work out 5-6 days a week. 2 days a week I do an intense boot camp thats a mix of cardio, weights, yoga, pilates, you name it! 2 day a week I do a Zumba class with is Latin/salsa aerobics dance class at my gym. The other days I work out with my friend doing just cardio. My trainer gave us tips on different cardio ciruits. We use 4 cardio machines (elliptical, treadmill, spin bike, and stairs). We rotate and do 5 minutes on each 2 times through the circuit.

The most important thing I have learned frommy trainer is to ALWAYS switch it up! Your body will get used to the same old thing over and over and you wont see results. Dont just do cardio. You need to be toning also as you go. Good luck and hang in there. Working out is the toughest part but the MOST rewarding! It will become 2nd nature to you in no time!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
