Hello Fellow Lap Band Friends!

Recommended Posts

Hi Lap Band Friends! I am from the Charlotte, NC area. I am currently in the insurance approval process for this exciting journey. I have met with all of my required specialists and the reports are being written as I type. It is my hope to have the surgery by June at the latest. I feel pretty good about the whole process. I am most fearful about finding a Liquid Protein shake that I like. I am and have always been a finicky eater. 2 weeks pre and post op on liquids only sounds extreme. ANY advice you all can offer an good tasting drinks is welcome!:blushing:

Hi I live in Monroe, NC who is your surgeon? Mine is David Voellinger on Randolph Rd. I am currently on day 3 of the liquid diet. I am taking the Chike Protein Shake but I find that I get really bored with just one flavor. So I have tried switching up with vanilla and chocolate. Also I found a really good premixed at costco called Premium Protein. I know the 2 week pre op sounds really extreme but it's not as bad a I thought it would be. I just take it one day at a time. And the shakes really do fill me up. Everytime I want to throw a pitty party because I cannot eat regular food I remind myself that I am so fortunate to have my insurance pay for my procedure. Anyway good luck to you. Let me know if I can encourage you in any way.

Welcome Teach

I am also in the insurance approval process and looking at mid June for my sugery. I am already drinking Protein Shakes every morning. The Protein I am using is Designer whey Protein. I switch between French Vanilla and Choc. I also tried the Unjury brand which I really liked but it seemed very expensive. I think it is all about preference. But if I can give any advise it is not to judge the protein just one first try. At least give a second go of it.

Welcome to the site. There are so many helpful people on this site. And alot of success stories to help keep you motivated. Welcome and I am sure I will see more of you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
