disappointed this week

Hi, I am 3 weeks post op, I have been doing really well.

The first 2 weeks i lost great-week1 7lbs -week 2 5 lbs totaling 12lbs. Now I'm at week 3 and only lost 1 lb. I hope this is not an indication of how slow this will go for me. I was wondering if this week wasn't good since I started back on soft foods. I did not cheat at all. I have been having my Protein Shakes for Breakfast since, I'm not a breakfast person this works well for me.My 2 other meals only 4 oz of food as per my Dr and only Protein and have been staying under 15 carbs a day with in those 2 meals. No Snacks . Should I be having another Protein Shake thru the day, will this added protein help loose,or will this just add to my calorie intake. I'm not hungry thru out the day, I believe i have restriction because some foods have filled me up faster than others. So does this mean I need to eat more or less, 4 oz of food twice a day isn't really very much. Or do I need more protein? This doesn't mean I need a fill, having a fill wont force me to loose weight correct,it will just restrict my intake more which i don't believe i need, like i said I'm not hungry thru the day and the little food i eat fills me up. Ok I know i didn't gain this weight fast but i sure as hell want to loose it fast. I know 13 lbs in 3 weeks is OK, but i don't want to stall. So Please any advise HELP:w00t:

Yep. I've stalled as well. I was banded on Feb. 8, and I've lost 21 pounds. I lost 10 lbs. the first week, 5 lbs. 2nd and 3rd week, and last week 1 pound. It does slow, and I too was a little disappointed, but this time is for healing not losing weight.

The thing you need to remember when you're newly banded is that the first 6 weeks are about healing and not actual weight loss. Believe me, you are both doing great losing anything at all during this time! My surgeon calls any weight loss prior to the 6 week mark a lovely bonus.

Believe me, there will be many ups and downs with the scale until you get more settled into your eating/exercise routine and restriction levels as your diets progress. One day you won't lose anything, the next a huge amount, or you'll plateau for 2 weeks and all of a sudden will be down 6 lbs!

I wish I could tell you it gets less frustrating, but there are issues throughout the journey that we will need to deal with. You are both doing fabulous. Just hang in there-- it does get easier as you go on :-)!

Wouldn't it be lovely to be able to continue to lose at that rate? Unfortunately, it can't and shouldn't be done. The goal with the lapband once you are healed and all that is 1-2 lbs a week. Some weeks you wont lose anything at all, some weeks you will fall. Don't get discouraged, it will come, just follow your doctors advise, watch what and how much you eat and you will get there, but it is a slowwwww process for most.

I agree, you are doing great. Your following doctors orders and that is so imprtant to success. I don't know how often your weighing yourself, but I suggest you do it only once a week. Otherwise the flucuations will drive you crazy (at least that's what happens to me). It's always tempting to step on that scale more often but it's a nice surprise at the end of every week.

I agree with the above poster who said that weight loss that fast can't and shouldn't be done for very long. For one thing, you'll be completely bald in a matter of weeks! More importatnly it puts a lot of stress on your heart. In times of rapid weight loss your body will get its energy wherever it can, including from your muscles if your liver doesn't have enough to make it happy. The heart is a big muscle.

Now that you're back on actual food, it's higly likely you will not lose, or even will gain a bit, until you start to get fills. It happens to most of us. It's because your liver takes on a lot of Water when you start eating carbs again and Water is a lot heavier then most people give it credit for.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
