The Trouble With Mushies is....

Recommended Posts

.....I can't eat 'em. I scrambled an egg this morning, very sloppy as advised...2 tablespoons, that was it. I tried a mince meat puree yesterday..same thing. I haven't had a fill yet, so it isn't restriction.Liquids? Soups? shakes? no problemo.

Anyone else have this issue, and if so, how did YOU deal with it?

At 8 months post-op I still can not eat eggs. Some people just can't tolerate them after being banded.

I am having no problems with Blended meals ..I have not tried eggs as The dietitian said they seem to cause people a bit of a problem ..

I have had Blended Spaghetti Bol. with pasta.......Blended roast chicken with potato, sweet potato and peas Blended with a lot of chicken gravy.....Curried chicken , Rice, carrots, potato and Beans ,with lots of curry juice....Thinking of cooking a stew sometime and blending up that too as long as you have plenty of gravy/juice....

I have another week on this then hopefully I can get onto real EATING again only small portions...

Have you rung or been back to your Dietitian to talk about your problems ?? it might be worth doing..

Best of Luck...

Marion

Thank you both for your input. I guess I will stay away from eggs for now.As for the other stuff, maybe I need to only mush 1-2 ingredients together, like you do, Marion. Maybe chicken and mashed potato to start, yes, I'll try that. Not going to stress about it though,- I am due to return on 23rd for my weigh in and check up, I'll just do liquids if I have to, until then. It is a 4 hour trip to visit the surgeon's rooms, so I will just hang in there- but I WILL try just 1-2 ingredients. Thanks again.

At that stage I did not throw anything in a blender. That just seems so gross I know I could not have eaten it. There are plenty of foods that are soft and mushie enough to make it through the stage. Yogurt, Soup, oatmeal, chili ............

Don't assume it isn't restriction. You may be one of the lucky ones, like me, who had some restriction just from having the band placed. BUT, this also means your stomach may be sensitive to being messed with. This may mean you need smaller fills than some and may tighten easily when stressed. Just enjoy it for now!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
