Sorry! But I have to ask....BM's

Recommended Posts

Ok,

So sorry for the rude question but I need some answers....

I started the Pre Op diet on Monday and have not had a bowel movement....

Is this normal? I don't feel constipated or have any cramping...

I'm used to going like clockwork but now......nada!!!

Meg

I started my pre-op diet Tuesday. I noticed the same thing . . . I'm also wondering if it's normal.

Don't even think about it. It's only been a couple of days. I was 4 days in between craps even before I started this.

If you reach 5 or 6 days, try a laxative.

Totally normal. Your body has far less to get rid of now!

If you do start experiencing discomfort, check with your doctor; mine okays OTC stool softeners.

Same here - I started Monday and so far - NADA. Lots of gas from the Medifast stuff, but no BMs.

When is your surgery date? Mine is the 22nd.

Gingerjane, I'm glad you mentioned the gas. I'm on the slimfast and was starting to think I'm lactose intolerant. What are you doing about the gas? I'm starting to think this is the worst part of the pre-op diet.

Honestly? I pass it. LOL! I try to muffle it - I have an office with a door, so I'm able to do that here, or else I'll go into the bathroom. I do have some gas x that I will take if the pain gets bad.

And I spoke too soon about the BM. Goodness sakes the mother of all hit me not too long ago. I guess it takes a few days for your system to start getting rid of things. Sorry for the TMI! I was relieved and yet like "oh crap" (literally) at the same time. :frown:

Benefiber is awesome..it doesn't have a taste or an aftertaste nor is it gritty. You can mix it in any type of drink..put up to 2 tsps into your drinks up to 3 times a day..you will be regular. This will help after you are banded and you want to cut out pills.< /p>

If you're doing a very low carb diet then that's very common to have no BM's for days at a time.

When I was doing low carb I would use a couple of drops of Milk Thistle in my Crystal lite every day.

not much in, not much out. I've only had 2 bm's in the past 2 weeks and that's probably from the 2 times I cheated lol

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
