Went for a fill today - but he wouldn't give me one!

Recommended Posts

I drove 3 hrs to the doc today to get my 4th fill - but because I'm throwing up alot, he refused to give me one. Says I have 9cc in a 14 cc band already and he's afraid if he puts more in this soon, I won't be able to toterate anything. I guess it's ok. Anyone else have their doc refuse to do a fill? He asked me "are you gunna hate me forever?" Not even, I love him! I've lost 11 lbs the past 6 weeks, so I'm doing well. Much better than my first 2 fills.

Do you all still drink Protein Drinks or are you getting all of your Protein from food? I'm not gettin enuf, so I'm just wondering!

I"ve been banded almost three months now. I drink a Protein Shake most mornings. I hope to continue doing so untill I finish losing weight. There is no way I could get the Protein I need otherwise. The shake powder mixed with skim milk gives me almost 30 grams of protein.

I am at goal and way too tight. It is miserable not knowing from day to day, hour to hour if my band is going to close down. I am glad your doc didn't think you should have a fill yet after analyzing how you were doing. When things change you can always get a fill, that is the great thing about the band. I will be getting a small unfill tomorrow and hope to stop throwing up.

Congratulations on your wt loss.

Mimi

I have been where you are and also been to tight and had ill effects. The guy that does my fills often says, this is not a race. I agree. Glad that you and your tech decided to play it safe, should you have any side effects an unfill can be disasterous!

Since my third fill I have been getting stuck and sliming. I did get a fourth fill but only a half of a cc. I told the doctor about my getting stuck but did say that it's my own fault. I was eating too fast, not chewing enough, etc. Since my fourth fill I have been good about eating. The doctor told me that getting stuck and sliming are not good for your band or body. Naturally. If I hadn't admitted that it was my own fault and said I will do better she probably would have refused the fill. Evalute your eating habits and see if that might be the problem. About the Protein Shakes I don't do them anymore because they go right through the band and don't keep me full. Best wishes.

My surgeon has not refused me a fill yet, but we always have a long discussion about how much I am eating, and how my band and I are getting along.

He also checks my rate of weight loss and considers that along with my reports of hunger level. We have had to negotiate on the amount of fill, but he always listens to my input. I am the only one who can tell him how hungry I am.

11 pounds in 6 weeks is a great rate of loss. But if I reported that I were constantly hungry to do it, I believe my surgeon would give me a fill. If I reported that I were satisfied with the amount of food I was eating, but wanted to cut down to increase the rate of loss--I think he might say no, as I am very close to goal and should not lose that fast.

When I was overfilled, I lost 7 pounds in one week. That was too much for me. I felt really bad!

Keep up the good work!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
