Are you rarely hungry after being banded?

Recommended Posts

After you are lapbanded is the main reason you eat less is because you don't get hungry? Or is it because if you eat too much you'll throw it up.

Maybe it's late and my mind isn't that clear. But I'm trying to understand if you have to deal with cravings after being banded.

Also when I'm PMS I eat about 1 1/2 times normal. Will I still feel hungrier before my cycle after banding?

I've only been banded 4 weeks and just starting solids...but I will borrow a well used quote that's used here regularly..."they band your stomach, not your head"...

So yes, I still have to fight off impure thoughts about the choccie biscuits in the fridge. But today I had one and not the whole packet  Little steps...

I can say that I have beaten my caffeine addition...that's a biggy.

I'm sure some experienced banders will be able to give you more info.

Good Luck!

I am hoping it will be like my third pregnancy, where my baby took up residence where my lungs should have been. Consequently I had very little room for food, I'd eat a tiny bit, feel really really full and cheated that I hadnt got to enjoy my nice meal (and worried that I wasnt eating enough). So I'd poke a few more mouthfulls down and throw the lot back up or sit up all night with foul heartburn and reflux. The food would sit there for hours too and I couldnt eat more than a bite for hours and hours after a meal.

If being banded is anything like that I'll be extremely happy. And the weight literally fell off me to, for months.

YOu dont throw up when you eat too much (in so many words)

you have to have lots of self control

many say they are hungry ........ many say they are full and saticefied

IMO

the answer to your question is that you will benefit by not being as hungry..NOT by the pain and trauma of PBs or overeating stessers

I been lucky so far so Not be hungry and not care about food as little as I can eat.. But as I read through here, thats kinda rare

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
