What exactly does a fill feel like ?

Recommended Posts

I go for my 1st fill on 3/18 and am starting to get a little nervous, can someone please explain to me what to expect when I get there and the steps that you go thru to get the fill. Do you feel something inside like it is actually tightening around your stomach? Details are appreciated. Thanks !!

You may get a quite a few different opinions on this. My doc has me lay down with a pillow under my lower back. Then he finds the port and inserts the needle. It is a pinch but not bad at all. Then he has me sit up and drink Water while he removes the old Fluid and replaces it with new fluid plus the additional fluid I need. I keep drinking the water until I feel a difference. Then he stops. I do not feel it at all when he takes out the needle. The whole thing takes about 10 minutes!! I consider this a piece of cake. Hope the info helps....... Hugs!!!!!

My doctor has me lay down, puts the fluroscope over me, and also feels for the port. He puts the needle in, and like Jojo said it feels like a pinch. But I feel a little pop. My dr said that's normal and actually gives them an extra confirmation that he is in the port. I then stand up and stand in front of the fluroscope, drink a swig of barium. Then the Fluid goes in, and I drink Water to make sure it's not too much. They pull the needle out, put a band aid over the spot, and I'm out the door. It takes my doctor maybe 5 minutes at the most to do my fills. It's not bad at all!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
