Lost willpower , Please help

Recommended Posts

HI, I don't know why but I have lost my will power to diet. I have been on my diet about a month or so and all of a sudden , I have no will power. I want to eat everything in the house. If I can't do it now, how in the world am I going to do it when I have my lap-band® surgery or before my surgery.. If any one has any suggestions please let me know... Thanks everyone....

If it were easy to diet, we wouldn't need the lap band. Hang in there. Get lots of Protein intake. Eases the hunger. Go for food that is high in flavor. The first few days are the hardest. Didn't think I would make it to surgery without eating solids either. I did it and you can too. Each time you think about food do something to distract yourself. Think about children/grandchildren. Most importantly .... stay away from the TV. Seems like every three commercials are about yummy high fat food. The fourth commercial is always about losing all of that weight you gained from eating the advertised yummy high fat food.

Remember that the lap band is only a tool. But it is a great tool. Once you get the right fill going you can really get to that Thanksgiving full in a hurry.

Below is some information that I use to help:

The IDS New whey liquid Protein (Bullet) is what I take each morning that really helps curb my appetite. Tastes a little like flavored medicine, but really worth it.

The Protein shakes I make are: Progressive Harmonized Protein

You can get these at the Sunflower Shoppe in Fort Worth. Web site has addresses and maps.

Here is how I look at it. Willpower is a very tricky thing. We think we have all of this willpower but then one day we snap. It's because we deny ourselves so many things. What I hope is that the lapband and the willpower I do have, will allow me to occasionally have SMALL bits of those foods that I love. Not gorge completely on 2 baskets of chips at the mexican restaurant.

So, I think that it's two fold. One - maybe you need to allow yourself just a tiny bit of whatever it is you're craving. And think about it for a second. Is it a mental craving or a physical craving? I find that helps me, too. If I want a piece of chocolate (not doing that right now due to the pre-op but this is my theory on it) then I'll have one small piece but that's it. It should satisfy that need real quick.

Hopefully that helps. You're human - don't beat yourself up over it. Just take a few deep breaths and realize what your goal is at the end. We can't live the rest of our lives depriving ourselves of everything, we just have to make better choices 99% of the time.

Big hugs to you! It's so hard. I know. The other night I cried for a cheeseburger. A CHEESEBURGER. I mean, come on. LOL! (Instead, I drank a bunch of Water and went to bed - it passed)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
