Hi all, I had my surgery done Dec.'08 and have been great until 3 months ago. I had a tough time this last December. I had to throw up to get something "unstuck". I have seen my doc and he says I could not make the band slip but I now have some much reflux I can't sleep at night. I did have a hernia fixed at the time of surgery so I know what Gerd feels like. I did have the band tightented in October of last year too. Help! What should I do? Loosen band? More meds?

I also just recently started having acid reflex at night and it was not after a fill or anything. I have actually woke myself up choking on acid in my throat. If you find a fix let me know!

Here's what my doctor told me: Don't eat anything with 2 hours of lying down. Double your meds. And if it's not better in 2 weeks, come in and have some fill removed.

I did all that and I needed to have a really small unfill and my reflux went away. My problems started after a fill, so it may not be the same scenario for you.

Another thing... We all forget on here that many of the unbanded have reflux, too. Not everything is related to our bands. You may just need some meds. I had an ulcer before I had my band and I never had reflux. I still needed my meds.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
