Need some advice on a few odd symptoms

Recommended Posts

So, I had my first fill in May 2009. I'm not sure what my cc's are at this point. I think I've had a total of 4 or 5 fills, last one being September 2009. Since then I've lost about 40 pounds and a lot of body fat.

For about 3 months now, I've been regurgitating food at night when I sleep. After reading some posts on what people eat on a daily basis, I realized I was eating way too much. Since then I've been trying not to eat very much at night and my symptoms have improved a bit.

However, I'm concerned with the amount of food I can eat in comparison to what people are posting they eat on a daily basis. For example today I had a bowl of cherrios - didn't measure, snack Protein shake, lunch half a tuna melt with half the bread, bowl of Soup (probably 3 cups), twix bar for a snack and tonight I had a half a cup of homemade mac and cheese. Right now I'm waiting for the waxy burps to go away before I go to bed. I'll probably still drink some mylanta before I lay down.

Any thoughts?

Have you been to see your doctor?

If your symptoms have improved a bit, does that mean you're still having trouble keeping food down?

Even though it didn't happen right after your last fill, I'm wondering if it's possible that your band might be too tight, or maybe a slip?

Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than I will come along and suggest other possibilities.

Good luck, and let me know how you're doing.

Debbie

I've made an appointment to see my doctor. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks for the advice and thoughts.

I went to my surgeon/fill doctor on 3/25. He said I was a bad girl and should have come to him as soon as I noticed my symptoms. They were not normal and he took out some of the Fluid. He said he barely had to retract the needle as the excess fluid was basically pushing itself out.

In the meantime I fill like I have no restriction at all. He wants to see me in 1 month after my 3/25 appointment. I wasn't losing when my band was too tight, now I wonder how I'll do. He said I would be able to make better food choices when my band isn't so tight.

Anyone ever have this happen to them?:)

I had a similar problem at one time. It is true that you may not lose as much if you are too tight . . . but you have to make good choices when you have less restriction.

I was wondering, did your doctor just give you an unfill or did he do a flouroscopy or barium swallow along with it? I was wondering because reflux occurs when you are too tight but you were eating larger volumes of food. I was just wondering if your pouch might have been dilated while you were too tight. If so, leaving the band more open is very important and may be necessary for some time to get your stomach back in shape.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
