Hey everyone! I'm new to the site and really excited about this site! It seems like an amazing support group. I have two more months to go before my insurance will officially ok the surgery, and I can't wait. Looking to make some friends in the area who have had or are planning to have the surgery. I currently live in Amarillo, Texas, but travel all over. If there's anyone out there who would like a weight loss partner, let me know!

I am scheduled for 3/22. I remember that WAIT. It seemed like so long and now I'm in day 2 of my pre-op diet. It will go by so much faster than you can imagine. I joined these boards in December thinking that it will NEVER be my time and now, it's coming up!

Would love to have a weight loss buddy. I'm looking at losing about 125 lbs. :)

The wait does feel like forever! I think about the surgery daily and about what preperations I can make. Glad to hear it goes by faster than I'm feeling. Congrats on being so close! I'd love to hear the details when the surgery is over, if you wouldn't mind. Looks like our start weight is pretty close. I'm at 274 currently and hoping to lose 144 lbs. When I weighed 135 I was at my best. I hope that weight is possible for me again!

I will be completely honest - right now is the hardest part. The 2 week pre-op diet is a KILLER. I did just walk two miles at lunch and came back and had my Soup. But, I promised the girl I was walking with that we could stop at Wendy's. What I would have given for a cheeseburger. But, I will say, this pre-op diet is good for some things. We went past this cupcake place and NONE of them looked good to me. Used to - cupcakes were my favorite thing! So, there is some benefit.

We're going to do this!

Hi SBeth -

I go to my last nut visit on 3/19, then the final wait for insurance approval begins. I'm in Houston and could use a weight loss buddy too!

These are the things I'd like to hear though. I feel like sometimes my doctor sugar coats things and I want to know the nitty gritty so that I can be fully prepared. I am 100% determined to go through with the surgery no matter what I hear, I just want to know what to expect.

But you're right..we will do this!!!

I'm originally from Houston and visit fairly frequently. Maybe we could meet up some time and talk about our experiences.

I tell ya - if I can make it through this two week pre-op diet, then foodwise, I can make it through anything. I've been having the really bad headaches from the carb detox as my nutritionist put it. Right now, I'm looking forward to the pureed portion where I can have some flavor. (chicken with salsa is one of my favorites!!! AND - SUPER low in fat and HIGH in protein!!!)

So, counting down the days. Sigh...

Hi SBeth,

The pre-op does suck. But it is time-limited, and totally worth it. Mine was two weeks of Medifast. The stuff is not my favorite, but it does allow one "lean and green" meal each day, so I got to chew. I lost 8 pounds during that time.

Not all doctors require a pre-op. Does yours?

After my surgery my doctor said he could tell I had followed my pre-op very closely because my liver was nice and small and pliable. I was very pleased to hear that!

The post-op diet was not much easier. I was starving! I was to be on Clear liquids for a week, then full liquids for a week, then on to mushies.

My surgery was on a Friday. By Sunday I was ready to eat my dog. Had he not been able to move faster than I, he'd be gone.

When my surgeon called me on Monday morning and I told him this, he let me move to full liquids. At my 1 week post-op appointment, I was able to move to mushies as I was doing very well.

The rest is history

I am two years post-op and don't regret my decision. Best wishes in your journey!!

They let you have a lean and green meal? I am SO jealous. I'm on the Medi-Fast pre-op diet and we're not allowed anything except the Medifast shakes, Soups and 1 bar per day. Because I can't have Peanut Butter or cinnamon, that limited what I could have. They won't let us have anything lean and green. Trust me - right now I'd kill for a grilled piece of chicken and green Beans. LOL!

The only other things we're allowed to have are SF popsicles, SF Jello and clear broth from Soups or bouillon.

I will say thought that the post-op diet is not as bad. We have 1 day of clear liquids after the surgery, then 2 weeks of pureed mushies, then soft foods for 2 weeks. I can't wait for that!!!!

Yikes! No lean and green? Sowwy! My surgeon said to follow Medifast. He gave no restrictions. I was doing soups, shakes, and bars for a couple of days before I read the thing and saw the lean and green. I about did back flips when I saw it!

But I am jealous of your post-op. My first meal of mashed potatoes was the best thing EVER!!!

It is amazing how different doctors are in their orders, isn't it?

I guess I should find out what diet my doc is going to require. I've heard of a lot of people losing a pretty decent amount of weight off the pre-op diet.

What's worrying me currently is the whole blood clot thing. I didn't know anything about it until I got on this website and all of the sudden people are talking about how they knew someone who died because they got blood clots from the surgery and not walking enough. I guess after surgery my butts going to be walking around the hospital first thing come hell or high Water.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
