I am scheduled to get banded on April 7 and my dietician told me that my surgeon does not like us to use Crystal Light as it has citric acid in it and that can be hard on the stomach.

Anyone else not able to use Crystal Light?

Anyone have stomach problems from using it?

I think it depends on the flavor. No lemonade because of the acid but I like both the fruit punch and raspberry.

I live off crystal light, have for years...lemonade and pink lemonade are our favorites around here (less stain potential...) no problems so far. Good luck!

The clinic I went through actually recommended Crystal Light. I drink the lemonade flavor and have not had any problems.

I found at WalGreens some really cheap flavored sugar free drink mixes from Snapple, Wylers and Hawaiian Punch. The HP flavor was Purple Passion, or something like that. Basically it's grape. Oh it is so good! I got an iced tea from Sonic the other day and when it was gone, I mixed one of the grapes with Water and poured it over the left over ice. It tasted just like a grape soda, minus the fizz! The boxes were only $1 or $2, depending on brand, with 8 packets in each box.

While I love the pink lemonade, I have a problem with it if I drink more than 1 glass a day. Too acidic for me. But I drink *lots* of the fruit Punch and Cherry Pomegranate without any problem.

I too use Crystal Light and love it. Right now I'm on a pink lemonade kick and I like it very much. It's interesting - before the band I had BAD acid reflux disease, but the band cured it once I got some restriction. So, before the band I really stayed away from things with a lot of citric acid in them. Now I don't pay that much attention. Don't get me wrong, I don't eat/drink a lot of things with citric acid, I just don't completely avoid them anymore.

I have not gt my band yet, not until March 25, but my doc said they were fine. I love sunrise orange and fruit punch mixed together in a big sonic cup with lots of ice. My other two favorite right now are the wild strawberry it has some caffine in it and I have given up pop so this is a staple at work and also their strawberry/banana it has 3 gm of protein/5 gm of Fiber in it but has 30 calories per serving. Oh and Wal-mart has their brand and I love their Cranberry/Apple. I drink it every morning.

I'm not a big CL fan but I love the diet Snapple fruit punch! I really miss my sweet tea so I've been making my own with Splenda. I've also gotten a little burned out on all the SF Kool-Aids.

I drink the tea with lemon flavor--I do OK unless I drink a LOT of it---over 4 glasses at one time. Then my stomach starts hurting. Have never tried the other flavors, but will soon.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
