jensmallwood 0 Posted March 8, 2010 Just like the other surgery stories say, you REALLY will not remember anything between them putting the mask on your face and waking up in recovery. You won't remember the intubation or the extubation or anything. (The breathing tube was the part I was most worried about-- I didn't want to be awake for ANY of that. And I wasn't.) And they give you a little something to make the worry go away before they wheel you into the OR. My pain was pretty minimal- not even my incisions hurt very much. I had a sore throat, and a sore shoulder that evening, but after that just a gassy tummy and some nausea one day (solved with meds). Do you have someone to hold your hand before surgery? btrieger 21 Posted March 9, 2010 I had surgery less than a week ago and wouldn't know it if I didn't have the scars to prove it. My story is pretty much the same as Jen's. No pain at all. The gas was very uncomfortable but that last less than 3 days.
kkarryall 0 Posted March 9, 2010 I had the same worries as you...but didn't remember a thing, wouldn't have even known that they put a tube in me!! You'll do great

lcdragna 0 Posted March 9, 2010 I have been banded for 3 months now. Love it!!! Would done it over again without thinking! I was little gassy after surgery but not in pain. Had gallbladder out the week before and that was worse than lapband surgery. And honestly that wasn't bad at all! Good luck!
Laura Lane 0 Posted March 9, 2010 i wish you the best of luck, pain what pain? you'll feel more excited to see the results!!!
TulipStar 2 Posted March 9, 2010 You'll be fine...I had to have the surgery twice, plus I have had 3 other surgeris, so I have been under many times. Remember the dr would not do the surgery if he didnt think you were healthy enough. Good luck!
serenity55 15 Posted March 9, 2010 (edited) While a lot of people say they don't remember being wheeled in to the operating room, I do. I remember lying there, listening to my heart monitor. I remember the anesthesiologist coming in and talking about tilting my head back "for easier intubation" which scared the living daylights out of me; because, like you, it terrified me. I'd had another surgery a few years ago, and a couple when I was a child. The last thing I remember was what they called a "time-out" where a nurse said my name, date of birth, the procedure I was having and my doctor's name, and the next thing I knew, I was waking up in recovery. It's really wonderful--one minute you're pre band, the next you're a bandster. I was up and walking that evening, and two days later, at home, I began taking short walks on my treadmill. It was uncomfortable for me to get in and out of chairs, but nothing I couldn't manage. I didn't take any medication when I came home. I'm excited for you, and wish you nothing but the best! Definitely keep us posted! Debbie Edited March 9, 2010 by serenity55
daqui26 4 Posted March 9, 2010 i agree with the other posters. i was nervous up to the day of my surgery. on that day i was calm. they took me to the back, the doc said we are giving you something to relax and put a mask on me. 3 seconds later (lol thats what it seemed like) i was waking up in recovery. i dont remember a thing after the mask was placed on. best wishes
lisaluvsgreys 48 Posted March 9, 2010 I thought the surgical part was the easiest!!! I had no nausea, I woke up thirsty, and I could not believe how quickly the surgical time passed! You will be fine! When they wheel you in, you do not even have time to look around the room. They dispense the meds while you are rolling down the hall. Sleepy time! I actually did not even know they were putting me to sleep yet. You have no idea what is going on until you wake up in recovery. Very peaceful! My most difficulty time, was the first week of recovery! I thought, Oh My Word, what have I done. A week later I was fine. I would not change a thing. My biggest frustration is waiting to hit my sweet spot! I go for another fill tomorrow. It will be my second one. I am hoping it will work! Best Wishes!!!! I will say some prayers for you on Thursday! Hugs!

mskutz 0 Posted March 10, 2010 I love you guys soooooo much! And although I dont have time to respond individually to all of you, thanks you all so much. I have been on Clear Liquids all day today (my docutor just requires a liquid diet the day prior to surgery) and it must be God's grace, because I am really not hungry. The Protein Shakes are working! Praise God!! I know this could change at the drop of a hat, but for now I am content and calm! Thanks all, Pray for me, tommorow's the day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
