my blood pressure has gone up so much since surgery...150/100...why im eating healthier, exercising...i don't get it..why would it go up so much...i always had great bp..never had an issue with that preop..anyone had this issue..i have been buying prepackaged delimeat but everything else i cook myself. Today I got the Swanson lowsodium turkey deli slices..other than that what am i doing wrong...i have an appointment in 3 more weeks with my gp to check on it but i went today to cvs and it was still high?

I don't know about the shakes but a couple of things were raising my blood pressure.

The first is salt/sodium intake. A lot of low cal products replace the tasty fat and sugar in their products with loads of sodium to imitate the taste but it sounds like you have a handle on that if you are buying low sodium meats.

The second is smoking. Do you smoke?

I like unflavored Protein in Soups, broth, chili, and Greek yogurt (with a little vanilla and splenda).

As for the BP--how far postop are you? Are you under an unusual amount of stress? Is it possible that you have "white coat syndrome"---meaning that your BP elevates simply in response to having it measured?

All of the things mentioned--sodium, excess weight, and so on---can affect blood pressure. But sometimes it's just idiopathic---it just is. My mother and grandmother had astronomical BP despite very low-sodium diets and being of normal-to-low weight. That genetic trait sent me RUNNING to the doctor when mine crept up just a little from a lifelong baseline of 110/70. I'm on low-dose meds now, but suspect I will be taken off the next time I see my internist.

I'm glad you're seeing your doctor about this soon. If you're concerned, it would not be inappropriate to ask for an appointment sooner.

I will try those suggestions for the powder thanks!

I am right at 3 months postop. I do have a family history of high bp. I went to the dr. for a post op check up and had a cold at the time. She thought it was the dayquil making it so high. I quit taking it like she said and have been checking it at cvs. Everytime it is still high and actually a little higher. She wanted a follow up in a month.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
