Okay, I'm on my pre-op diet 2 protien shake during the day and one meal for dinner. I'm currently on day 3 of my diet and I'm not doing to good. Last night after I had my dinner an hour later I was hungry. I was really hungry,:) I felt like had never eaten. I tried to go to sleep but I couldn't. So I end up killing the 1st thing my eyes laid on. Rice, I had a lot of it too. I don't know what to do to avoid this from happing again. Help me please!:smile2:

What do you eat for your meal? Is it made up of just lean Protein and nonstarchy veggies? If not, I'd try going that route---so that you don't trigger cravings for starchy stuff like the rice that bit you last night.

You HAVE to stick with it--it's really important. That means cleaning out your kitchen so that foods that are not appropriate aren't THERE. It means that, if nighttime is hard for you, pack it in early and go to bed. Seriously.

It DOES get easier after a few days. Your liver will start to release its glycogen stores, and you will feel LOTS better, physically. The head hunger will persist, and is hard to fight.

YOU HAVE TO DO IT.

Each starchy thing you eat postpones your body's natural response--which is to rid your liver of glycogen so that it is smaller and easier to move around during surgery.

You don't want this.

Betsy is right. The point of the pre-op diet is to "shrink" the liver so it can be easily retracted out of the way during lapband surgery. My surgeon told me of a lady that said she had stuck with the pre-op diet, but had not. He had her in surgery and her liver was so thick he couldn't place the band. He spoke to a family member and they said she had not been doing the pre-op diet. That alone was enough to make me stick to it. So stick with the Protein and non-starchy vegies for dinner like Betsy said. It does get better. Good luck to you on your journey.

Probably most of us have gone through the same thing. Some of it is head hunger and boredom, as well as real hunger. It is important to follow the doctor's diet as the other posters said.

Best wishes,

Mimi

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
