Loss off appetite - normal?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've been banded for just under 6 months - for the first 2 or 3 months or so, I still felt hungry but obviously I was eating less because I had restriction and that was fine.

As of month 4-5, I've lost me appetite. I seem to feel full most of the time, or I'll have 2-3 bites of something and not want any more. I've lost a lot of weight particularly in the last month and although I don't feel sick/stressed or anything like that, I'm wondering if this is just a normal part of the process? (as in, maybe my stomach has shrunk from the reduced food intake and is now not asking for much?)

That is a great question... I have been banded since Jan 26 and have no appetite.. I think the hunger pangs being gone are the best part of this....I don't panic eat to get rid of the hunger pangs...

I go through different phases on different days.. sometimes I can eat a lot.. other days.. just a few bites...not sure why...

I will watch this thread though to see what is said.. thanks for asking...

Jennifer

The same thing happens to me off and on. Sometimes food just have the same appeal.

Since surgery I haven't been hungry. But sometimes I wonder if it's that I'm not hungry, or that eating just isn't as much fun as it used to be... It actually takes concentration and focus now.

Yeah, it sounds like it would be a dream come true for me! BUT-- do you have enough energy? I'd just be worried about eating enough for what your body needs to function.

Are you feeling good otherwise?

I was banded on Feb. 8, I didn't hardly eat anything the first 2 1/2 weeks b/c I didn't feel like eating. When I started eating soft food this week, my appetite has returned! I feel like I can eat anything. It stinks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
