Loving my pre-op diet!

Recommended Posts

I have lost 10 pounds on the first week of my pre-op diet! I know it is mostly Water but it's still weight! My willpower has been pretty good so far and I haven't cheated at all. I think knowing that I have my surgery to look forward to is keeping me keeping on! :smile2:

That is fantastic! Your post gives me encouragement for when I start my pre-op diet on Wednesday 3-10. Great job and I hope that your surgery goes well!

I too didn't mind the pre-op diet. I figured that it would be a "cleansing" of sorts to rid my body of toxins before the surgery. I always had Water on hand to quash the hunger pangs and that helps alot!

Hello Mimi: What exactly IS your pre-op diet? I saw my doctor for the first time yesterday, and am having surgery in 13 days. But no one ever mentioned a preop diet. I'd really appreciate your reply. Thanks much. Deb Tanner:rolleyes2:

WAY TO GO, MIMI!!

My surgeon gave me 4 preop eating plan choices- I ended up selecting Medifast 5+ Lean/Green, as it gave me more options than just shakes. Due to the crazy winter weather, and a long wait for my insurance approval, I ended up on the Medifast for a month, rather than the recommended 2 weeks. In that time, I lost 20 pounds, which was SOOO motivating! I really didn't mind the Medifast at all- it was just hard to get in all 5 of the Medifast meals on some days. My surgeon told me that my liver looked great when he placed the band.

I know you'll turn out with a great result- 98% of the battle is positive attitude, which you have in spades!

Fair winds and smooth seas,

Christine

Mimi, I feel the same way! The first day was hard and I was so cranky, I thought I was going to kill someone! When I woke up the next day, I was exhausted and thought I'd never make it, but got on the scale and saw I lost 2 pounds! I agree, it's probably Water, but who cares what it is, it's 2 POUNDS in ONE DAY!!!!!!!!!! That would take me 3 weeks to loose normally. The loss gave me the motivation to keep going and the 2nd day was much easier and I was happy! Now I'm down 4 pounds... Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!!!!

My preop is up to 5 slimfast shakes a day and 2 cups of veggies.

12 days to go!

Hi Deb,

I have a 4 week pre-op diet. I use EAS with skim milk for my Proteins shakes for Breakfast and lunch. For dinner I have a serving of meat (not fried) and either 2 servings of veggies or 1 veggie and 1 fruit. No potatoes, Pasta, rice, or sugar. No caffeine or carbonated drinks. This is my particular doctor's pre-op diet. I think it really depends on your doctor. Good luck with your surgery!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
