dietician advice 'no shakes'????

Recommended Posts

Just curious, has anyone had their dietician tell them that they don't have to drink their shakes anymore???

I am 8 1/2 mo. out banded and this is what I was told.

She said I could get all my Protein from food now . That's a lot of food!!!!

I don't agree and I still drink my 2 shakes a day.

Jennie :smile2:

I agree it is a lot of food and I don't know how ppl do it with good restriction. I have at least 2 shakes a day, too, but have to watch the calorie content because I like Adkins shakes.

I have my Protein Shake every morning for breakfast... ever since my fill in like August I have been too tight in the morning to eat.. but I control the calories because I use Pure Protein shake mix, it is whey and has 25 gr of protein and I mix it w/Skim milk, another 9 grams of protein, some ice and some low fat Peanut Butter, more protein... and that holds me for several hours....

Yep, my doctor's office is in the eat-your-protein camp, too. They do concede that supplements can be useful on days when eating is tough. And they're okay with substituting a shake for one meal a day. Or to reach Protein goals when they seem unattainable.

The latter is how I rationalize my continued use of 1-2 per day. I really don't get enough Protein, otherwise. I am sure they'd frown on this...but I don't really see how to stick with ALL their recommendations, otherwise. Something has to give--either I use them and get enough protein, or I don't, and don't.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
