Lately I have been either coughing and vomiting after meals or the food has felt stuck before eventually going down and it hurts the whole time.

Is this normal??

I had a fill around five weeks ago and it was ok then got worse. Have another appointment with the surgeon in a few weeks but just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this?

I would call your doctor. Mine said if the band slips you won't be able to keep anything down. Since you had a fill so long ago, it shouldn't be that your too tight. I hope this hasn't happened to you!

I agree with the above poster. It just doesn't sound right with all the throwing up. You could do some damage to your esophagus and teeth.

Ok, here's my dental hygiene background speaking. I hear about so many people who throw up a lot and then blame the band for dental problems. Even if what you are throwing up doesn't seem acidic, it is. Once it has been in your digestive system and it comes back up it is full of acid. The enamel on your teeth will erode when it is in contact with this acid so often. The best way to avoid this is to stop the cause of throwing up. This may mean a tiny unfill. I usually tell patients I see to rinse with baking soda and Water after throwing up. This will help neutralize the acid. It will not stop the damage, but will decrease it. Once the acid hits the teeth, a 20 minute acid attack begins. Brushing your teeth does not help this.

I hope it isn't a slip. You should go back to your lapband doc.

When I had my prolapse I started with the coughing and then got to the point I couldn't keep Water down. I wouldn't want to go through that hell on the weekend. I would see if you could get in just to be safe before the weekend.

Thank you all for your advice!

Particularly in regards to the dangers of so much vomiting. It feels like I am doing damage to my teeth.

I emailed my surgeon and he said to go to soft foods/liquids until my appointment on tuesday when he will take some Fluid out of my band and arrange an xray for me to make sure that there is no more sinister problem.

I have been away on a driving holiday wiht my husband these last three weeks so it's great to be home and to be able to work out how to fix these problems. I also haven't weighed myself since we went away so I'm really hoping to see a lower number on the scale. (kind of afraid to check!)

Back in late December I found out I had a slight slip, and one of my symptoms was coughing at night!! I also would wake up with Fluid in my pouch, and it was hard to hold anything down. It was a struggle to even keep Water down. After my fill everything was fine, but I kept getting tighter and tighter. My dr. kept unfilling me 1cc at a time, until I finally went in for an UGI and that's were they saw my band had slipped. I got unfilled and now 3 months later everything is back to normal!! Just see your dr. and don't worry whatever it is your dr. will just fix you right back up. Good luck!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
