My name is Belinda (as you can tell). I'm new to this site and am finally ready to do something about my weight. For years I have watched my friends lose with due to gastic bypass and lap band and finally - the light bulb went off. I got the name of a great surgeon and had my first consult last week. He told me that because my bmi is 40, I am morbidly obese...and finally, it sunk in. I am really obese. It's funny how my mind told me for years that I"m not that big. Despite the pictures and the rolls, that say otherwise.

Well anyway, enough about that. Dr. told me that I had to fulfill all these other consults and it will be about 3 months. I was so lost at the appointment, but I did ask questions. I am eligible for the gastric bypass and lap band but I'm going for the lap band. Less invasive. I made all my appointments but was surprised to know that the nutritionist's appt. is a series of 3...and I finish them. How soon after that is the surgery scheduled?

So far I have the appts lined up, sent a request for my all of my referrals and watching the board and rooting for all of you. I'm excited and wonder why it took so long for this lightbulb to go off. Oh well. Better late than never.

Thanks for listening!

After 20 years of struggling with my ever increasing weight, I told myself at the beginning of 2009 that if Ihadn't amde significant progress by the end of the year I was going to pursue lap-banding. My light bulb went off in October 2009 and here I am being banded on Tuesday(3/9)!

Good Luck!

Welcome, Belinda- and congrats on beginning your Lap-Band journey!!

This is a great place to ask questions and see successes. When you get a chance, go look at the "general discussion" forum-- there's a "sticky" thread at the top of before and after pictures. VERY motivational!

Hello Everyone, and Belinda good luck on your journey. I too thought about the band several years ago and finally decided this year to do something about it. I will be banded on March 11th..

Question for everyone else, how do you get the weight ticker at the bottom of the screen?

Take Care,

Lorraine

Welcome, Belinda!

The timing of surgery depends on your insurance and your doctor's schedule. I, too, had a three-month nutrition supervision. After that, it took about 3 weeks for insurance approval; it was near the holidays, or I suspect it would have been faster. The holidays also pushed back my surgery date a bit; from first appointment to OR, it took just over 5 months.

Your mileage may vary, though!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
