:confused:I need some reassurance! I must have mis-read my eating guidelines. I am 7 days post surgical and I thought on my Phase II of eating I could have grits. My instructions actually say Hot Cereal. I hade about 1/4 of a cup of grits this morning for Breakfast. They were very thin and soupy but now I'm scared. I don't want to mess anything up and damage anything. Did anyone eat anything like this this soon?

Thanks!:(

My doctor allowed Cream of Wheat during the full liquids phase. If your grits were about that texture (thin, soupy), you're probably fine. Also, if you'd messed anything up, you'd know about it already! I am sure you're fine, but you should make sure to ask your doctor about the grits before you have them again.

Congratulations on your surgery!

Catherine

I am sure the "soupy" grits will be fine and you haven't damaged a thing.

However......I had my surgery in July and in January, my hubby made me some grits for Breakfast. He got them really thick, but I thought it would be fine..Big surprise. They got stuck!!! Hurt? Yes it hurt!

The good news is that they passed on by the band fairly quickly. Other good news, it reminded me that no matter how far from surgery you are, or how well you think you know what you are doing, you can still get a surprise now and again!

So, don't worry too much, we all have been there.

Good luck to you! You are going to be so happy that you had the surgery!!!!

Catherine, you are looking great!! Keep up the good work!:(

Tukeygirl, Forgot to confirm what Catherine said. My doc also allowed very thin hot Cereal. I really enjoyed having cream of wheat,malt-o-meal and the grits during that stage. Sure beat the liquid diet!:(

I started eating grits at 7 days post op as well. No problems at all for me. After all, everybody knows any self-respecting southern girl MUST have her grits and eat em too!! :(

Thanks for all of your replies! I was so stressed I ended up calling my doctor's office and they said just what all of you told me. If there was a problem I would have know within 10 minutes! It's so weird, since eating those grits at 8:30 this morning I was feeling full until around 4:30 this afternoon! I love that this may be what the future looks like!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
