Day 2 post op and every muscle aching

Recommended Posts

Is this some kind of secret or is it just me? I have never read about muscles aching all over.

Felt great after surgery, just gas.

More gas yesterday.

Today, no gas but every muscle head to toe is aching.

Well, you know what they say, "misery loves company."

I have been reading these forums and obesityhelp for a long time and I don't remember this being mentioned. Everybody loves a surprise. :(

Had surgery Monday... felt gas pain Tuesday... felt achy but okay Wednesday... Last night I tried to sleep in a bed instead of a recliner... Not a good idea. Today I am so sore and achy. I also had a hernia repair and I'm feeling a lot of pressure when I breathe deeply. Misery does love company. I'm happy that I'm not alone in this boat. I just hate feeling like I'm regressing! :(

I had my surgery on Monday(3-1-10). Was sore and bloated Tuesday. Better on Wednesday. My muscles around my port are still sore though. I've gone on 3 walks a day. I would suggest to keep your body moving, even though you may not feel like it. My feet were bloated yesterday but are now tingling...strange. Keep us updated on how you are feeling.

My doctor sent me home with liquid codeine, 10 days worth. So if I was "sore all over" I never knew it.

I have liquid hydrocodone but I am not really in pain. Just achy. Hard to explain. I am going to take a mouthfull and see if that works.

Thanks!!

Is this where I offer you cheese? (kidding)

Just think, It will only get better now each day.

You were in good shape from all your efforts pre-op, so I think that will help you feel better sooner post-op.

I think surgery recovery is just really random and different for everyone. I had a sore throat on surgery day along with an achey shoulder, general abdominal gas pressure but no pain on day 2, felt better on day 3, THEN had horrible nausea and dry heaves on day 4 (couldn't even stand up). Good but generally weak on day 5 and today (day 6) I feel almost perfectly normal. AND HUNGRY!

I wonder what day 7 will bring!:smile2: No- I feel that I've turned "the corner," and you will, too!

Try some gatorade. Muscle aches often happen when you're not getting enough potassium. It can also be the body's reaction to the stress of the surgery.

I'd say a hot bath will do it but it's a little too early for you to be sitting in the tub. Got an electric blanket?

I had my surgery last monday on 2/22 and it took me a full week to feel like myself again. I was so sore I could barely walk, when I would stand up from sitting down it would take me a good 30 seconds to start moving. Hang in there, by 1 week post op you will feel fantastic.

Emily

Banded on 2/22/10

Dr. sent me home with pain meds (Roxicet--allergic to codeine) and told me for the 1st few days to take them faithfully every 4 to 6 hours to stay ahead of the pain...so if I was achy or in pain I couldn't really tell you :w00t:. Maybe just try that? I hated to think I was relying on them...but I am also a big boob! After 2 days of that though I took less and less (mostly night time) and was great! Feel better soon everyone!!! :smile2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
