First, let me start by saying I really enjoy the support the members of the forum show each other. It's lifting and informative. I have already learned so much from reading the questions and replys.

I am 46 years old and have fought with weight all my life. I'm tired of not being able to enjoy simple things because I loose breath, my knees or my hips hurt, or I'm tired. There is too much out there and I am missing out.

I am a frequent looser, only to quickly gain what was lost and more when I relax any regiment.

I have my first appointment with Dr. Steely in Clarksville TN, (I live in Hopkinsville, KY) on Wednesday and I am excited. I know in my heart this is what I need to do and will pay out of pocket if I have to.

It's time.

Welcome busywoman! You sound like you are in the forty-someting mind set. I am 45 and was banded (hate that word because it "banded" is also a term used in castrating goats) on 9/26.

I got braces, will get some implants for the teeth I am missing, and got the band. You are right, in another 3 or 3 decades we can kick our feet up and know our aches and pains are well earned through time and more than that, fun times. We are much too young to experience this now.

Best of luck to you!

Welcome busywoman. I am not banded yet, but I found this site on the day I made the decision to do so. Since that day I have had my ups and downs w/docs and insurance companies. I don't post daily, but I visit the site two or three times a day. The support from others in this site have kept me on the path to banddom laugh.gif I hate to think that there are others out there who fight the same war with weight and have felt the same pain as I have. However, there is a tremendous amount of comfort in knowing that I am not alone. Heck we are the BIGGEST DARN ARMY in the World biggrin.gif and together we a fighting this war one battle at a time. rambo.giframbo.giframbo.gif

I appreciate your thoughts and wishes, feeling warm and fuzzy because FINALLY there are people who understand "why". Would be wonderful if I came home Wednesday with blessings from the doctor, insurance company, and a surgery date. (The color of the sky in this make believe world is teal :) Will keep you posted. Thanks!!

UPDATE: Did the 1st doctor visit on Wednesday. After that unexpected exam, they started moving quick. I am having a sonogram on my gallbladder and a upper ug..something on 12/02 and a sleep study on 12/09. The nurse gave me the person I am to contact for an evaluation, another for a diet class and nutrition class. They want doctor recommendations as soon as I can get them and then a list of my own personnel attempts. WOW! I left the office and my head was spinning!! My husband said start getting info together next Monday because Friday morning we are leaving for a suprise weekend in Gatllinburg, TN. Think I will keep him!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
