band questions and anxiety

Recommended Posts

i just got banded this past Tuesday! i guess i am having some anxiety issues because i am afraid i won't lose any weight. i am hungry every two -three hours, is this normal? and i am already getting tired of the soft diet! haha! and i am wondering after being banded do we have to totally cut out all fats and sugars? i mean we can still have fats and sugars in moderation correct? i hope you guys can answer my questions.

Hello Amos, welcome to the Banded Gentry.

We can eat everything we ate before, usually. Fats and sugars slide down all too easily, and this is how some bandsters eat around their band.

And yes, we require fats so we can metabolize vitamines A,E, K, and some others that I forget.

Of course you are hungry every two-three hours, that is normal human behaviour! Especially when you consider that you are not eating solid protiens.

Wait, you are already on soft foods? Most bandster post-op diets have us on a liquid diet for two weeks, not two days! (some bandsters have to do Clear liquids, others of us would have anything that would fit through a straw)

Please verify with your doc that you should be eating soft foods so soon. You don't want to damage your band or stomach

Welcome to bandland!! It's a great place to be!! :)

Amos, I agree with Crystal, Talk to your Dr. and find out if you should be on soft foods!? I was on liquids for 2 weeks before surgery and 2 weeks after surgery. You don't want to do anything to damage your band or your stomach.

As for what we can eat after surgery, Well just about anything that your band will allow, just smaller amounts. For me I can't eat soft breads(well toasted toast is fine if I chew really well), lettuce is a big no no for me but others have no trouble at all with it. You will find out what your band approves of when you are on solids again. Just take it easy and chew, chew, chew!!

Good luck ;)

RE: Lap Band Question

Hi Barbara, I will just share my own experience in answer to your question. After my lapband procedure and after following the proper diet for 6 weeks, I found that I could eat almost anything and almost as much as I did before the band was placed. I had not restriction at all. After my first fill of 1.5cc, I found that I had very little restriction. It wasn't until my second fill on August 1st of 3.00 cc that I had good restriction (almost too good). I probably should have gone back for an unfill but decided to tough it out since the drive was 3 hours. My story is the same as many other lap banders. My patience was really tested by not having restriction for a long time and consequently very little weight loss. I think that our surgeons ought to explain this part of the process a little better. I was certain that the lap band was not going to work for me. I am happy to find out that it works very well. It just takes some time to get the restriction tweaked to perfection. My best to you, Linda L

Hi Amos

My post op diet is similiar to yours in how quickly the doc had me off liquids and on food. Liquids 48hours, 2 weeks pureed/mushies, 2 weeks soft solids (now) and then regular food. I stay away from all sugar (how I miss my best friend Pepsi!). I also was getting very anxious about not losing once I was off liquids. I've noticed since I switched from pureed to soft solids my weight loss has slowed (1.5lbs last week). Then I panicked - what's going to happen once I get to solids? From reading all the posts I think that this is normal. I keep telling myself to wait it out... see what its like after a few weeks on solid food. By then hopefully my body will have adjusted from everything its been through and I will have found what works for me. If not and I'm not losing then its time to start the Quest for the perfect fill and restriction. Either way instead of freaking out I have to constantly tell myself -"I will figure it out one way or another" and you will too!

Amos

You have to rmember that even though you may not see the scale move you need to acess by how you feel and you your clothes fit. I know it is an obsession to get on the scale everyday. Sometimes it is more rewarding to weigh yourself once a week. I too ws on liquids for two weeks and then soft, you have to get into the frame of mind that this is not a punishment but a stepping stone to get to your goal of weightloss. Hang in there it will get better I promise:>

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
