Is this what "Stuck" feels like??

Recommended Posts

Some times when I eat I get this terrible pain, sort of between my breast but a little lower. It will last about 30 seconds or so, then go away. If I drink anything during the pain the pain gets worse. Is this getting "stuck"??

Yeah I hear a lot of people say it feels like that in there chest too, but mine is more in my throat and I burp and burp really bad and it hurts like hell. It just feels like something is just sitting in my throat and won't go away until I make it come back up. I just started to exsperiance this last wk when I got a fill at 6.5cc's.

I'd say you are not quite stuck as a stuck episode normally lasts a lot longer than 30 secs. I would take this as a warning that you are probably taking bites that are too big/not chewing well enough and that potentially you could have a real stuck episode soon.

Reassess what and how you are eating so that hopefully you don't get stuck as take it from me being stuck is really unpleasant.

@elcee you are totally right a stuck episode last way more the any 30 sec. So yeah you may have a tad bit getting a lil stuck. That was happening to me at first and I thought oh this stuck feeling isn't that bad like people say until you have the real thing it hurts like hell and last for a while until u can figure out what to do about it. I had to make it come back up and felt much better now I chew chew chew and some things I just don't eat at all.

Dumb question- but how do you make it come back up? I haven't gotten stuck yet but think I have come close. I have never been able to throw up easily and am not sure if I could if I wanted. Anyways, one of my fears about the band is getting stuck and not knowing what to do. Thanks!

Ditto for me... I sits in my throat and hurts... I have learned how to just make a vacuum in my throat and pull it back up and spit spit spit..... Today, at work I had two slices of cucumber, which I have been enjoying all weekend long and bam.... Stuck.... I had to run to the ladies room 3 times over a 20 minute period.... There was nothing comming out but slime all those times, but it just wouldnt stop.... It's like a burp bubble stuck in your throat... Ahhhh miserable.... Especially at work... Hiding in a stall trying not to be heard.... Or noticed, running to the bathroom so many times in such a short period of time... They probably thought I had diarears which is even worse.... I don't want them to think that! Haha.... This too shall pass...

Yes the 30 second pain in the chest is definitely something getting stuck and you never want to take a drink to make it unstuck, that will make it worse...sometimes it might take more than those 30 seconds but it will pass eventually.

Sometimes you can just make it come back up.

Some people recommend guzzling a fizzy drink really quickly but if you do this you need to make sure you are near a toilet as apparently it comes back up really fast.

If I am really stuck and the object isn't moving i find sticking a toothbrush down my throat helps.

I know this all sounds gross but its really not that bad. Nothing like vomiting but until you have experienced it for yourself it is difficult to understand.

@Jengems oh my gosh that is exactly what happened to me at work, but luckily I was on lunch in the lunchroom. I still was like damn my lunch buddies is gonna wonder why I keep going to the bathroom which I only did twice. Everything you said was how I felt yes feels like a birp bubble in your throat slime was coming out yes yes yes everything you said here I felt.

As to the question on how to get it un stuck. I finally just stuck my finger down my throat and it came back up. I to HATE throwing up, but it hurt so bad you will do what you can to make it stop and that did it for me and I felt much better. Just try to chew your food as much as you possibly can and you may not have to feel the real stuck feeling, but it is way worse then what your saying here.

for me to bring up something that is stuck, all I have to do is cough and there it is.. LOL but usually it's not the stuck food, but I slime and that also helps the food to go down....

Just want you to know I experience the same thing pretty often, but have never actually thrown up or PB'd anything yet. It hurts enough to ring the alarm bells for me and then I slow down and chew, chew, chew.

One time I ate a roll (wrong food and way too fast - it was in the first month post-op) and it took at least 5 minutes to pass through and I was in mega-pain. I couldn't throw up, but luckily I remembered that someone on here said it helps to put your arms above your head. So, I was just pacing around the bathroom w/my arms above my head praying it would come up or go down quickly. I will never eat a roll again, I don't even like them that much!!! And, I am super duper careful w/any bread now. I usually don't take any, but if I really want a taste, I take a tiny tiny piece and just nibble at it.

It feels awful. It really does hurt. But DO NOT DRINK it will make it worse. I learned that the hard way.

DEFINATELY DON'T drink anything when you're stuck. It will come right back up I guarantee you.

Stuck to me is a very sharp pain right between and slight below my breasts. When stuck, one can commonly see the Erin-bird looking ill and pressing that area like it helps her . What has happened, I think, is that I took a too big bite OR I tried eating something glutinous... meaning bread, rice, Pasta. Pasta is sometimes okay but bread and rice get me stuck 95% of the time.

Sometimes the only way to feel better IS to throw up a little. If you need it, it should come up with a little gagging, no elaborate ploys needed. It doesn't burn because there should be no bile. Just spit and sometimes the offending piece of food.

After you've thrown up, these are the instructions from my doctor. Do not eat anything solid again for 24hours. Trying drinking a tablespoon of Water one hour after and if you cannot hold that down, call them immediately. If you can, good. Now it's Jello, broth and Water for you until that time the next day. Hope this helped!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
