I was reminded today of how much I LOVE Green Tea. I am at a point where I only drink Water, but I'm tired of not having taste. Is Green Tea an ok Fluid for me to drink?

I don't see why it would be a problem, unless you are loading it with sugar. It DOES have some caffeine (though not as much as coffee or black tea does), but they also make Decaf green tea.

I love green tea, and don't plan to give it up!

I love it too! But my doctor did say to try and avoid it because of the caffeine (it can be dehydrating) but I'm drinking it anyway LOL

My doctor hasn't said anything about it. I guess I should ask him. To be honest, last time I drank green tea every day, I lost weight. Maybe I should buy the Decaf next time.

The information about caffeine being dehydrating has been debunked. It is very, VERY mildly diuretic. And by mild, I mean that if you drink 8 oz. of green tea, about 6 oz. remains available to hydrate your body.

Tea (or any caffeinated drink) will not dehydrate you. It will help hydrate you like any other liquid (or moist food)---just a little bit of it is lost to diuresis.

This is a concern that can be put to bed--and I wish the medical community would catch up with it and do so.

That said, caffeine does irritate some peoples' stomachs. And it does trigger some peoples' hunger.

I'm not one of those people. If you're not, either, then I think tea is a great thing to drink. Lots of antioxidants, nice and soothing, and a nice treat in the day.

(And yes, I'm drinking tea right now. I've also started experimenting with herbals, and really like Celestial Seasons mandarin orange spice tea for a change of pace.)

The amount of caffeine in green tea is barely worth metntioning, and no sugar or milk is supposed to go in it. I don't see any reason why you shouldn't add it to the list of things to drink.

Mugi-cha, or barley tea, is also quite pleasant. It makes an excellent iced tea in the summer.

I drink a lot of tea plus my Water. In fact, I am drinking more than I am eating every day. I love liquids better than food. Thanks Betsy for reminding of the mandarin orange tea. I'm getting some tomorrow.

green tea has EGCG which can help in weight loss, but

Oolong is more for weight loss and is also known to block carbs.

Mate is good for curbing appetite, but has the same caffeine as coffee.

If you are worried about caffeine drink white tea, it has 1-2% of the caffeine of a cup of coffee and is great for skin and hydration, green has 5-10%, oolong more, black more, mate most.

Or herbal or rooibos! they have no caffeine :w00t:

I work at a tea parlor.

And there are green teas that are without caffeine.

My favorite is Jasmine Green Tea by Foo Joy!!

It does NOT need sweetener and is delicious!!!

I brew it up and keep it in the fridge and drink all day :smile2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
